You see an job advert. You then search your email or hard disk for your resume. You modify the dates, mobile number and experience field and send the resume. Well those days when you did that are over.
No longer are the days when your generic all purpose resume can fetch you an interview call? Gone are the days when just by sending your resume, you will guarantee an interview call. Gone are the days when few scribbles in a word document with your name on it was getting you interview calls.
Everybody is sending resume and sending a resume like that takes 5 mins and that fact alone makes that the HR at the other end will get 100’s of resumes. So stop yourself and make sure your resume highlights answers to the following questions before you hit the send button.
If the HR doesn’t see this in your resume in the first two pages, your resume will end up in the recycle bin!!

Resume is a tool, not like an hammer or a nail but a chemical catalyst. It won't give you a job. It won't convert your status from unemployed to employed.
But it's a catalyst that will accelerate or quicken your getting a call from the company.
The keywords, the length and the substance are nothing but represents the thought that you put in your resume. The right and thoughtful combination of which acts as a trigger in recruiter's mind and you will find yourself sitting in front him.
Remember this as you update your resume. Your resume is your marketing.
So don't leave anything on chance or laziness, put the weight of your thoughts in your resume and no one can stop your career to take off.

When I was eight, I used to accompany my friend’s cousin to the nearby pond to catch fish!! He did is everyday and someday I used to accompany him. Along with the fishing rod, he used earthworms to catch his fishes. He never used choclate or rice which was his staple diet.
Likewise, with your resume when you go out fishing for job, you need your fish food to attract the right interview call. The fish food here is the keywords you use in your resume.
Examples. Instead of design and analysis of gas turbine, say aerodynamic/
mean line design of centrifugal impeller or stress analysis of compressor. Be specific and use keywords that really tell what you did. Like stress/life and fatigue calculation of BLISK, instead of saying doing performance analysis of gas turbine, use keywords.
The point I am making is simple.
Internet job portals have 100 thousands of resumes and your resume competes for the job offers among then and the best way your resume can show up in first few of the search results is by the help of those keyword.
So make your resume keyword rich. Identify from yours skills,project and experience the keywords that hr might be searching for and use them in your resume.

By the way, day before yesterday I was updating a resume for a friend with him. As we were updating, he questioned how much details should we put in a resume.
How much should it reveal?
As you know I maintain that for resume, the first page should give a snapshot of your career and profile. The rest are just addons
A resume of 2 to 3 page is maximum, you should keep it under this limit. The tight it is the better. It's your marketing document that brings you interviews.
So don't make the runway long for the resume to travel or else the hr will drop the resume before the take off.

I have already showed you all the worst crafted resume of my life. And in that I promised that when I'll get time I'll showing the mistakes and would re design the resume. Since I have see lot of requirements in OURAeSI so I thought it high time to update you all on that.
So in this post i will give you a general structure of the resume that one should follow. While writing this I will keep the worst resume of my life in my mind.
Personal detail should be at the end. For a resume to be effective, you need to have the first page that contents all the relevant info up front. So first page of the resume is the most important.
The first thing is give in your name. Broader than anything you have, then state your phone no. And email. And briefly in one line state your location. No need to give house number or other details. Just stating behala kolkata is enough. That is just be brief in the address. Give a general idea about your location.
Then comes the objective. Let it be brief. One line statements. As this post told you, objective is only good if its original otherwise it looses its importance. So craft a good objective or leave it.
Then if you are new a graduate. Education should be your first highlight after the objective. Be brief and to the point in it. State the year. Avoid percentage if not asked specifically. Use first class or grading level. Address of your school college is not important so skip it just give the location. For AeSI graduates follow Bishnujee’s advice and write BE aeronautical instead of AMAeSI. Why ? AMAeSI is unfortunately little known so avoid the confusions.
Then comes the important thing. Here you should rite about any practical experience you might have. Any training you attended and stuff like that. It should be the place where the recruiter will spend the most time to see if you are fit for the job so be sure when you send out the resume update this section accordingly and shuffle the list in accordance with the requirements.
Technical skills section can either come here of just after the education. make it as a bullet list. An example presented below
After the project summaries list, you can include the project details where you elaborate on the projects. Here also be very brief about the projects and highlight what were your responsibilities in the project.
After this you can give in your personal profile. Be brief and don’t state unnecessary details. No one will read them unless you are going for a reality show. So keep it professional.

Is this your last or second last semester of AeSI. If it is then first thing that you need to do after aesi exams is sit in front of the computer and begin making a resume. No matter how you make it, just make it. edit it and judge it, if satisfied post it on the job site?
A few days back Shashank SHARMA wrote this following letter as an appeal to all those who are sending resumes to requirement he was circulating. For those who haven't read the mail here it is. Some very good points regarding sending resume.Friends, With reference to my earlier posts in OURAeSI & Aeronautical_Society_of_India groups, I have been experiencing problems in saggregating the resumes. Most of you do not care at all to write your "JOB CODE" and "YEARS OF EXPERIENCE", without which it becomes "Time - Consuming " to go through each and every resume and scan your details. Kindly note, I am not a HR whose sole responsibility is to scan the resume details. At times it becomes very annoying when candidates simply attach their CV , without any subject and covering e-mail. After observing this, childish style of response, my internal urge to help my friends/AeSI mates has started taking a back seat. Everyone should understand that when there are numerous JOB-CODES and 100(s) of resumes to segregate , it becomes a tedious job to run across it. On a weekly /fortnightly basis I receive a good number of requirements from my HR department, but due to the above said problems faced, I find it hard to circulate the requirement details over the group post.
Finally , this goes for the collective subscribers for OURAeSI as well as Aeronautical_Society_of_India, that :
(1) Please read the requirement carefully.
(2) Before sending your resume, go through it yourself carefully and estimate how much you fit the bill.
(3) Do put your desired JOB CODE for which you want to apply for and also your YEARS OF EXPERIENCE in the subject line of your e-mail.
Finally, this goes without saying , that your application is a very crucial step in getting you known by the company. Hence, to strengthen your candidatures make sure you fulfill the criteria of above (1), (2) and (3) before sending your resume/CV.
I expect every candidate will take special care in this regard, as this is your own career.
