Three new IITs, one each in Orissa, Punjab and Gujarat, will start functioning beginning this academic session. The government took a decision in this regard. These IITs are in addition to three new such institutions in Rajasthan, andhra Pradesh and Bihar, which have already been given the go ahead for starting courses. The mentor institute for the IIT in Punjab would be Delhi IIT, while for Gujarat it would be IIT Mumbai and for Orissa, Kharagpur IIT would act as the mentor. The current academic session commences on July 20th. The IITs will have to accommodate not only more students under quota as per the Supreme Court order but the extra students
