Lesson of choice from Richard Branson – How to choose stream and training?

Read this just an hour ago and liked it so much that i am posting here. Do read the following its just one line.

When asked in a TV chat show what he would do if he lost all his money, entrepreneur Richard Branson replied simply: “I would find something interesting to do”.

This applies not only to Richard Branson, but to everyone. Do Something that you find interesting. Do something that you love. This is where success is.

For AeSI students on the verge of choosing a stream for section B, i will say. Follow what Richard Branson says. Follow your passions.

If electrical sets the current in you, then avionics is the stream your compass is pointing. If wind tunnels fascinate you, its pointing you somewhere. Look in that direction.

Your natural skills, the subjects you enjoy, the things you do in your spare time, the magazine that you look for in a book mall, are better indicator of success in future than external reasons, so find them. Know what you like and choose that appropriate steam!

Same goes for training. Don't select the one that is available, select the one that your mental compass points you at. Select the one that you know/feel is made for you.

Develop skills early on?

If this is your second last and the last semester in AeSI, then its high time for you to take a skill that you want to use in your work life. Its the time when you can put in just 30 minutes to it everyday and have a sizeable amount of knowledge about that tool. So begin.

the advantage of starting now is in compounding. You have time now, all you need is consistent use of that time to learn a skill.

the skills can be anything from learning catia, to programming in FORTRAN or making excel charts. The size, shape and volume of the skills is not important, whets important is that you develop some tangible skills that can be used when you enter into the industry.

select something that you can do daily. select something that you can begin today. select something that you know will come handy when you enter the industry.

remember this skills are the stuff that will separate you from the other graduates. This are the skills you can honestly highlight in your resume and cover letter just out of college.

Just like me perhaps this will be the skills that will land you your first job... So are your preparing yourself for it? Its your career and you have to pilot it. And setting 30 minutes daily for this pursuit is the best autopilot technique for achieving it.

Intermediate step

Not everyone lands up a job, just after graduating, It seems like we need some Intermediate step after you graduate from college (AeSI)!!!

I know very few people, in my life, who has bypassed the Intermediate step. But for majority, there is an Intermediate step just out of graduation. For me It was the training that I did In NAL.

If graduating from AeSI instilled some confidence, then the stay and work at NAL under an able leader was confidence on steroids. It boosts mine like intro does to the bikes in Need For Speed (NFS) games. It supercharged my self-confidence. A look at my resume over that period reveals how I evolved from a timid, hesitant AeSI graduate pass out to an aerospace engineer ready to take on the world. :)

The confidence didn't come from vacuume but rose from the tasks , projects and assignment i handled in NAL. So, for the graduates of AeSI who are stepping out Into the Industry, embrace all the opportunities that come your way.

From training to apprentice to other avenues of professional development, leap to opportunities and let the Intermediate period be the springboard for a greater success in life.

a) These programmes are designed to induct fresh Diplomas, Graduates and Post-Graduates in different disciplines to get an exposure to the various facilities and S & T developments and to take part in the ongoing R & D programmes of NAL. The duration of the stipendiary training programme is for one year.

CSIR Diamond Jubilee Research Interns

CSIR has introduced a new HRD initiative – The CSIR Diamond Jubilee Research Interns Awards to be implemented in all the CSIR labs effecting from April 2003. The aim of the scheme is to induct 30 young Interns to work in the R & D environment to imbibe the spirit of enquiry and learning through participation The selection of candidates is done newspaper announcement followed by interview by a committee.

My first test upon enterning the aerospace industry

My journey into the aerospace industry began with the training at nal. I was assigned under dr. Ramamurty of clocter division of nal.

In nal, my first task was to write a program or otherwise calculate the overall configuration of a micro gas turbine that generated 10N of thrust.

I guess this task was a test that my mentor put me through to test my gas turbine knowledge and programming skills that were listed in the resume he had. I successfully did my task and the c basic program i built for the task is still alive somewhere in my harddisk.

So what's the point. The point is you will always be tested when you join the industry. Be it at the training stage or in the floors of corporate.

So keep yourself updated and be prepared.

Before you hunt for Catia, Nastran, UG, solidworks, ANSYS etc training centers

Getting pretty good at things is merely a first step, but one that you need to take in order to be ready to spend the money to get great.

This is a quote from a recent post of Seth Goldin titled Why aren't you (really) good at graphic design?

Now what does that mean. Essentially what he says is that self learning should come before you shell out some money to the institutes. Before you hunt for Catia, Nastran, UG, solidworks, ANSYS etc training centers.

This applies more to AeSI students as we lack the facilities that graduates from other institutions get by default. With labs and dedicated tutors these things come as part of the curriculum. But for AeSI, your initiative is the weapon.

And you know what? Getting pretty good in catia, nastran or any other software, programming language is the matter of sitting with the software one hour each and every day. IF you can discipline yourself to put in that one hour.... your are on your way to be pretty good at that software.

Net is an abundant source. Google's technology is there then what is stopping you. Put in that hour.

Once you have done this you will not have much doubt to choose which CATIA training centre or NASTRAN training centre to go to get great in that software!!!

Take baby steps to enjoy the journey.

Take baby steps to enjoy the journey. The journey of your learning, the journey of your training. Now what do I mean by this?

Have you ever noticed that you enjoy your food more when you eat slowly, bit by bit and in small chunks  rather than taking it in big gulps. Well same thing is applicable to all other areas of life from learning a new software or doing some assignment, learning about a new subject.

Taking baby steps is the way to go. Break your big steps in small chunks and execute them one by one. The basic idea is to break down the step in such little steps that you don't need to do think about the step any more All that is needed is execution.

This happened in my last assignment. I was handed a big project and as I went to it it looked so big, even the assignments were not so clear. I didn't knew where to begin. I just had some tasks and deadline but no head way to proceed.

So what I did? I sat down and listed all the steps that I wanted to do before. I dissected the whole process into microscopic steps, every obstacle was curved into new exploration steps and this explorations lead me to new roads and finally I never knew how quickly I completed that assignment.

So whatever be your journey, take baby steps.

Training is all about your Mentors work

What is training? We talk about this so much in this blog and training is a part of every AeSI students life.

Well for some its the AeSI’s on job training (or OJT as it is called) that you can land once you complete your degree and have 60% overall. And for others training is what you initiate by yourself by approaching the scientist at NAL, ADA or GTRE ADE etc

Now in all this training, why are you selected? Well your eligibility maybe a factor but when you are assigned to a mentor in the training, it not about you? It all about the mentor. The mentor had some tasks and assignments in his mind when he choose you. Keep that in mind and honor that.

The tasks and assignments that you get might not seem challenging but they are important to your mentor that's why they are assigned to you.

In the beginning, the tasks will be of low value, seem to have little challenge, but they really are your test of how much you are capable of, what you know and how you execute them. These tasks are the stepping stone on getting some good and challenging assignmentSo do them as good you can and always add value to the work you do, it will always be noticed. The work you do will bring more work and pave the way for the assignments that you will like.

So whenever you are in training phase always remember its not about you? It about the work you do for your mentor. Its some real work that you are doing for him or her!!

If you aren’t facing Challenges you are not Learning

Its true if you aren’t facing a problem you aren’t learning.

You are busy learning the new catia software, you are going smoothly in all your tutorials. But as you progress through your tutorials do you feel “am I learning something new, am I growing. Am I facing a problem that I wanted to solve.”

If you are not hindered by a problem you aren't growing. Solving a problem, is the best way to grow and learn.

I have always said that real learning only comes when you are working on a real time projects and are facing the day to day real challenges.

My CAD learning accelerated when I was assigned on a real life project of CAD modeling of mixed flow compressor. Previously I was learning the solidworks software with tutorials in my spare time, but the real lessons I learnt came when I faces some real problem working on modeling that compressor.

The constraints of the projects presents you to try out new things. So always challenge yourself. Always strike to work on a problem. This is the only way you will truly learn a tool or a subject.

If your boss or mentor in your training period is not giving you any challenging and interesting work. Give yourself interesting assignments, put restrictions and work on something that do have real value for you you or others.

Do the tutorials but make them hard. Put your own constraint. The barriers you put might be of time based or resource based. This will help you grow.

Time constraint is the easy one. You can say you will complete a certain job in 10 minutes. The resource based constraint can be that in your next modeling project you will not use the toolbars shortcuts at all. Or you can say that you will do the next modeling of the FEA model by scripting. You can put a restriction that in your next tutorial you will not touch the mouse.

So by limiting the time or putting restriction on the tools that you can use you can challenge yourself to solve the problems. This will only help you grow.

Try it. It really works.

Software,Training and AeSI graduates

Someone from Hyderabad AeSI had the following queries

hello sir ,

I have just completed my AESI, IN HYDERABAD I came to know about this site and registered myself today. I have not received my final marks list  yet. I have seen that you have done many programming languages . I haven't done nothing other than the course. I don't have any proper guidance here in Hyderabad. so please tell me should I learn any soft wares ?.and  some of my friends told that we would get an apprentice training letter after completing the course,is it true.And do companies take AeSI fresher? are their jobs for AeSI graduates. I have so many doubts,please give me guidance. hoping that you will send a reply soon

Instead of replying to his question in an individual email I thought its better if I answer them here so others too can join in the discussion.

Please tell me should I learn any softwares ?

aesi-training-softwares-used-by-aesi-graduatesBy all means learn software, they are the tools of the trade so one shouldn’t be shy in learning them. So what are the software that AeSI graduate should learn. I have already mentioned software tools used by aeronautical engineers list, you can start with these. For computer language please do go ahead and at least have one language under your belt. Here in the post titled SUCHANDSUCH where I elaborated why you should learn a programming language.

If you don’t have access to any of the software tools mentioned and are apprehensive of any programming language then by all means take up excel as this is the most used tool in the engineering domain. This is one of the software that will be very much be a part of your work life so learn it, excel in it.

 

Some of my friends told that we would get an apprentice training letter after completing the course,is it true

Yes its true, You might want to see the notification on AeSI’s website at aerosocietyindia.com for information in this regards. Moreover having certificates and training before getting a job is always a good thing, They are some of the things that a new graduate of AeSI can highlight in his or her resume apart from the educations. This is also an opportunity when you acquire skills required for the industry.

 

And do companies take AeSI fresher's?

Yes they do. Just as any other engineering graduate you have a chance to be a in any company. In all aerospace companies that are in India, you will at least find one AeSI engineer. So take heart and go ahead. All you need to get a job after AeSI graduation is confidence+skills. Here’s a list of companies that I have in this blog where I mentioned some of the companies AeSI graduates are working in. Its bit old and need updating, but I am sure it will give you and idea about the spread of AeSI graduates in the Indian and world aerospace industry.

 

Are there jobs for AeSI graduates?

By all means, jobs are available for AeSI Graduates. You do have the best knowledge, you just need to add on the other skills to get off to a great start. I will recommend reading this series that I had a while back to set yourself to a great start in your career. As I have already sated ideally landing in a job just after your graduations depends on what you do in the your last semester. So read it here.

When is AeSI training not worth doing?

If any investment of your time doesn’t build internal assets, it isn’t worth doing.

Very true in every case. Recently I had a chat with my colleague. He just came back from UK on an onsite assignment and had done training in NAL Saras division.

I asked him about his experiences at both this place and he replied " yaar bore ho gaya, koi kaam hi nahi tha" he added  " sara sara din bhitho and ghar ja kar so jao" why? " yaar kaam aata hai but in drips so there was a long wait"...  so what you did in this long break " yaar soyae, net surf kiyae, ghanae sunae , ghumae aur kya"

Well this is where the problem lies. A few days back this very same guy commented that he wanted to learn VBA. And what’s surprising was that he was working on excel in both NAL and here in his present job and then also he knows nothing about VBA!!!

So who is to blame here. The guy of course. He had the time, the opportunity but he never utilized it. He was mostly stuck at the how part he reasons, but I know the reason is different. He was not clear about the where part. He wasn't clear where he wanted to invest his time or efforts. If he had clearly defined where he wanted spend his time, then learning VBA was just a matter of googling it... as he had access to internet, the vast reservoir of collective knowledge but he reframed from using it.

So how will you rate his training days in NAL and in the present assignment? I will give him zero. As I truly believe that If any investment of his time doesn’t build internal assets, it worthless.

Before deciding on training or getting a job think hard, Is the the time you will invest build internal asserts like new technical skills, discipline or presentation skills, if it doesn't then it isn't worth doing.

Questions On AeSI training

A few days back I wrote about 11 questions one should ask if he desires to go for training after AeSI. And I promised that I will post my answers to the questions that I had, so here we go. Hope this will give you some insight and direction in your quest for training after AeSI.

What is my goal for doing the training?

Well when I was at the training stage of AeSI, my most important criteria was to get into a environment which gave me the opportunity to learn and apply my skills. I already had the programming knack and I enjoyed thermodynamic and the propulsion subjects so I wanted to learn something that was based on these two skills. Catia or any CAE software were not in my mind. I was ready to accept learning catia or any other CAD but I wanted to test the waters for my programming skills and the stream I was graduating from.

Is there an alternate way I can fulfill this goal?

Since I had one subject (that is VMD ) left to clear and had the time so I initiated my training to make fruitful use of the time I had and my goal was to learn whatever I can and then give exams while doing this.

What skills I will develop with this training?

For me CAD and CAE skills were not the primary goal. When I joined NAL, my primary focus was what I knew and how I can apply it to the benefit of the mentor who took me as a trainee. So as I sat for the small interview with Dr Ramamurthy sir, my focus was on the c and small vb skills that I had. In fact those were the highlights of my resume at that time.

Are the skills congruent with my specialization?

In those days performance job was the only thing propulsion stream guys did. It was the in thing and for this excel and knowledge of one programming language was the most important so while I joined NAL, I was prepared to focus on these tool and skills. They were as I knew then congruent with my desire of working in an aerospace organization on software development and tools development

How much time I'll spend on the tools?

At the time of joining I made a goal that I will put at least 1 hours of my time in the tools that I want to learn and explore. In my last semester of AeSI, I employed a similar technique and put in a daily goal in which I wrote one c program daily. So I can decided to carry on the same here in my training and made a daily target to put in one hour minimum of my time in learning the tools that are available at my disposal in NAL. I set this minimum one hour limit and vowed not to miss it any day.

Does the skills I will learn congruent with my job goals?

As fate has been, I knew C but when I joined NAL and began working, my mentor handed me FORTRAN programs which I was supposed to run, and debug. This changed my course and without considering a bit I began learning FORTRAN putting the needed hours into it. Then as I began picking it, I was entrusted VB which I began learning in earnest and so as things progressed I picked up the skills that I am now using in my present and last work. So I would say at that time I just wanted to learn something and the best thing that I did then was I didn't block anything that came my way. I just accepted the opportunity that the work brought and carried on and I am thankful that I did so.

Is the mentor I will be working under well known or known to be good?

Yes this was best for me. Even before joining NAL, my friends told that if you want a good training then Dr Ramamurthy was the best for a propulsion stream guy. So He was the first person I approached and by luck I got through. He liked my resume and I got selected. I am glad and will forever be indebted to have him as my first boss later when I joined NAL as a contract engineer.

What are my 3 specific targets from this training?

My 3 specific goals during the training were.

  • To apply what I knew to the benefit of my mentors work, be it in programming, designing or analysis.
  • To be market ready and learn whatever is presented in my way
  • To gather skills and experience that will help me get a job after the training

How long I am willing to put in the time in what I do?

Since I still had one subject to clear, so  I knew 6 months was “pakka” for me to stay and I decided that  I will stay 6 months more before I head for any job. I even promised Dr Ramamurthy about this and in reality I stayed more than that duration and it was all worth it.

Do I really believe all the answers I have written?

When I did this training and decided to join, I knew what I am good at. So I wanted to test the water and wanted to see what I can learn and what I love the most. Even though my thoughts were not so clear about what I liked more (programming or designing or analysis), but I knew I wanted to explore my possibilities and areas of interest and training in NAL did fulfill all my wishes and helped me know what I enjoyed the most and wanted to work.

How will you quantify your success at the training?

This was one thing that I did in two ways one was to log the hours on each software that I worked on. So every night I came home and noted the hours that I put in each software. This helped me learn incrementally. Sometime even when there was no work I just explored that software and tinkering with it, always taught me a thing or two.

Another way I quantified my success was by crafting my resume, all that work that I did there increased my work experience and taught me new software tools every month, so I made a resume every 2 month with the updated new skills and work and posted it in naukri.com. This updating showed me that I was learning and the posting of resume in naukri brought in the new offers in my email that showed me what kind of profile I was building with the skills I was acquiring.

So that’s it,It has become a longer post that usual but I hope it helps AeSI students who are looking for training to clarify their thoughts and helps make them better choices.

AeSI Training: 11 questions to ask yourself before deciding on training

Training is an integral part of AeSI students journey. Its one thing that had huge impact in my career, this was the point where my confidence in my abilities and education increased. Read 6 reasons for doing training after AeSI to know more about it.

Concentrated Effort

How to accelerate your tools learning? It can be any tool, today I am going to share a technique that has enabled me to master many computer languages and tools in a very short span of time. Yes this is one technique that is the core in all that I have learnt so far. The technique is so powerful that rewards are 100% if its applied correctly.

The basic premise is total 100% concentrated effort towards THE TOOL. By concentrated I mean concentrated like sulfuric acid. The main word is concentrated. Concentrated not as in concentration. Concentrated like when your brain refuses to accept any more information or inputs but you force it and carry on with the tool. Concentrated as there is nothing else apart from this. 

Well why this technique works perhaps it works because you are fully focused on the tool You might not see the benefit immediately but your concentration will push your brains limit and will make you understand more. This is what I did in my latest tool learning experience. 

Although I have already explained the process here, what I didn’t mention was that for the last 10 days I am working on that particular software 8 hours straight with lunch break of course. I am compressing my every bit of my time on the tool. Its not that I am repeating all the same problems yes I am repeating the tutorials but every time I am doing one tutorial I am applying all the things that I have learnt from the previous tutorial. My tutorials are connected and they are not pockets of island now but a series of inter connected activities. If I learnt the technique of defining groups, I am utilizing it in all my next tutorials even its not mentioned, if I learnt the technique of sectioning and drawing graphs for stresses span wise for the compressor blades I am creating those contour maps for all tutorial even if they don’t mention them.

Sometime since I have done so many times, my mind is making me explore different things that I am not sure what they are but exploration is revealing them. All this concentrated single minded focus on the tool is making my mind to catch up things better and understand the feel of the software faster. Yes the software is vast and i don’t expect to learn it all in few days.

One of the interesting thing that I have seen coming up in all this is that, when I catch a new word or phase on the menu, chances are that I already have a vague idea of what it does or I know where exactly it is used and where I can dig more. So the takeaway for anyone form this is that after the preliminary investigation and facts gathering mission delve deep and begin a concentrated effort.. focus on the methods and the process. Don’t worry about the results and how they look, the mission here is to get an overall feel and to soften the soil of your brain to well receive the seeds of the tool.

The technique can be applied to learning new programming language, new software tool from a cad program to an analysis tool. i have written on stuff of what to do while in AeSI,but in this post i will talk of what should one do after passing. what happens when you pass out. you are happy and ready for training or job that might come your way. Some get training from AeSI and some like me managed to get it on their own initiative. What happens after this is what I want to talk.

The first month or so is great as you learn new software,learn to apply your knowledge and get a grove in the topic you are working on. In my case as I joined NAL,I was assigned to compressor design project. I liked the subject and from then on devoured the subject and any material regarding that topic,so with continued work my interest grew,i was doing well. I developed software to design compressor,validated it and as grew,i even designed it in CAD tool solidworks and this piqued my interest in CAD tools and I went into that direction,learning and doing all kind of crazy stuff in it.I was progressing,learning. so this continues,then comes a date when I felt my confidence is good and I began applying for jobs actively. Make no mistake I did that before also but only this time I had real work and my resume showed my confidence. So as expected got though the call and I get invitation for the interview. This is where I felt things are not as rosy as I think they were looking. During the interview I saw I had good knowhow on compressor design but when it came to topics I studied in flights, my memory failed me,I am giving the right answers but I am not sure if the answer I gave is right. So after coming out of that interview I realized that for a person starting only good at one topic is not enough, you are expected to be good in the topics that you have studied

I am doing training in NAL but still confused!

A week back someone who is working in NAL as a trainee sent mclip_image001e this query!

I got my degree certificates and presently am in C-CADD working on aerodynamics calculations,am here in NAL since April 15, please guide me what should I do now as further am not getting clear way what to do now? Hope u will guide me as per your experience..........

Now what can I advice him?  I don’t have all the answers. If you are reading this please share your opinion in comments.

See just working on aerodynamic calculation is not enough. when you are in training know you goal. Ultimately its all for the job. So have a clear goal while entering into the training phase. Know what kind of work you want to do? or at least have an idea of the work you will like. Pick up software tools, software skills that might be needed and most of all have your resume uploaded in two of the popular job portals.

So my practical advice to him will be these 3 points.

  • He still has time so take stock and decide what you want from training? why you are doing it. Does the training helps in the work he intends to do? Answer this honestly.
  • Secondly make a resume. Post it on at least two job portals. Register and fill in all the details make them visible. And then wait for the job listing to come to you. See what jobs interests you. if something is good. follow through. This exercise will help you see what skills are needed and what your current resume calls for. So take stock and build those skills and aim for that job.
  • Learn some software. They are necessary. I know I always say that software's are just tools, but still  software is one of the reason AeSI folks go for training. Yes even if you choose no design or analysis job you need to learn ms office especially excel and word. So learn them.

Don't make any excuse... its your career you have to ride it to the destination!!!!   Well this are 3 things I will tell an AeSI guy doing training. What is your opinion?

Advice from Rolls Royce for AeSI

rolls-royce My friend is onsite on an assignment with Rolls Royce and recently he shared a great point that he observed. I would like to share it with all of you here.

Let me tell you something about RR, they are the second largest engine manufacturer in the world but they only their in-house codes(in most cases) some people don’t even know about the latest commercial software available in the market. they are currently using adobe reader 3.0 n they have no plans to upgrade it. like this in design center also they have their own tools which they r using for the last 30 years or so. no hi-fi software or anything .

so the great thing to learn here is that "Don’t keep too many options for yourself otherwise u may get confused or u may loose your focus". They are so popular without any great software coz they always kept minimum options and used all the available options to the fullest.

Back home in GTRE they bought almost all the software's available on the planet, but they forgot that they are actually buying distractions for them.

so what does this mean for an aesi student and graduate. well as I have already said in this post, tools are not that important. Its how you use what you have that matters.

Same goes for students, some of them spend lot of time collecting books and notes rather than taking up one base book and carry on with their studies.

So be Rolls Royce not GTRE!!!

3 things that Dr. Ramamuthy taught me and how they can help you learn catia or solidworks better

I did my training in NAL. I began it in my last semester. It was around the time when VMD subject took a turn around. This was the semester that AeSI folks all around saw no person passing in VMD!! So that time i joined NAL and was fortunate to be able work under Dr. S Ramamurthy, then sceintest F.

Apart from applying my aerospace knowledge there, i learnt NASTRAN, ANSYS, solidworks and many other programming languages..

Of those days i remember this 3 points that I have learnt from my mentor. This are the 3 steps that have made my learning of so many software's easy and fruitful

1. Always begin with basics. You will never get stuck. don't jump steps. Approach the problem from the root. follow all assumptions and tackle one problem one at a time. From CATIA to NASTRAN, everywhere Dr. Ramamurthy began any analysis project from the basics. he kept the focus of the basics and developed the whole thing from that point. He incrementally added the details and curved out the perfect mesh or model.

2. Work is your puja. This is the nirvana, this is the karma. If you can enjoy it and bring your passion into it you are the number one. He used to say this and this is what Dr. Ramamuthy followed. This is what he preached and followed. One glance at his desk will reveal him hunched back and playing around with his books, thesis or softwares. I still remember he was the first scientist who came to our division and the last who he left. He was very much involved in all his projects. How con he bring so much . Well his work. his passion in the subject supplied all the energy. Like Natrajan sir., his passion was his fuel.

3. Avoid shortcuts, they might be easy on the surface but they need more more work in the long run. Shortcuts can stumble you in unfamiliar territories but not the long cuts...shorts cuts are like AeSI, easy to get in But difficult to pass. He followed this in learning software too. He used file menu than relying on the shortcuts of the tool bar. For many it seemed to be a waste of time but I have seen that because he was accustomed to using the menu, he was more efficient in any machine he sat, while the lead designer in our team was great in his own customized system but his productivity decreased drastically if he sat on a different system, struggling to find the shortcut toolbars. So while learning any software, rely more on the menus and standard keyboard shortcuts than on toolbars, they might look inviting but with menus you will be more productive in the long term.

Quantity or Quality....

What's more important during training while learning design software's like catia, solidworks or analysis software like NASTRAN,ANSYS or any CAE software? What will you choose Quality or Quantity?

I'll choose Quantity? Why?

For getting the maximum out of  your training, focus on the quantity. Make a commitment that you will produce one catia model,one mesh every day.  One per day is much more effective and successful strategy than focusing on quality and trying to perfect one model or mesh for weeks. Quality is important and is an essential part but a daily commitment to quantity is the way that will help you learn and achieve more. This encourages you to experiment, to go ahead and make something, make more mistakes and learn more. so whatever you are doing strive more to produce more... quality will eventually follow!!!!

If CAD program is what you are learning, commit to produce one model everyday. Don't worry if its perfect of not but keep churning out... every single model you will produce will teach you a thing. So go ahead produce.. Same goes for NASTRAN, ANSYS, HYPERMESH or fluent or any other CAE that you are learning.
