Five ways of study to crack AeSI exams

I have already restated all this before but again it needs a reminder.
Aesi is tough. It needs more time, more effort and more concentrated
effort. So here are five simple yet powerful ways that one can
incorporate in his or her study habits to crack AeSI.

1. Study with the syllabus book. Read all the topics. Pick and
studying just what is taught in the class is not sufficient, one need
to study systematicly and cover all the topics listed in the syllabus
book. It did cost me twice in my aesi exams so don't ignore the
syllabus book. Read more about it by clicking http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=syllabus+book

2. Go for the basic theory. Master it, digest it, marinate on it, chew
it. Once all this is done go for the questions, just reading onces and
solving tons of questions won't help. Understand and digest the basics
and then go for the questions. Read more about it by clicking http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=basic+theory

3. Pen and paper study. Don't just use your mind and fingers to read
and study. Get a rough copy and pen. Draw brainstrom and study. Don't
just write the definitions draw them, connect the new info with the
already present information. Connect different topics and strengthen
your understanding and cement your concepts. Read more about it by
clicking http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=study+tips

4. Revise everyday, every topic. Whatever new you study revise it the
next day, the next week and thereafter. This helps you to keep you
immersed in the subject. Helps you quicly connect the new to the old
and during exam times helps your recall much more easily. Read more
about it by clicking http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=revision

5. Read thoroughly. Read the full chapters. Read the full text. This
is where the main core is. Justing reading once and concentrating on
solving questions, papers won't help you. Read throroughly. Read
thrice. This is the only way to get to imprint what you read on your
minds canvas forever. This is what will help you in the long run. Aim
for the marathon than sprinting for the exams. Read more about it by
clicking http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=amaesi+exams

These are some of the things one should keep in mind and follow to
pass aesi exams!!!

Gate preparation for aerospace and Internet

Well preparing for GATE is very different from preparing for your semester examination. Someone rightly said GATE is all about basics and how to apply those basics in practical problems. so how do you prepare for GATE 2009? What is your strategy for gate? How you plan to tackle the question. With negative marking what are your plans for uncertain answers. If Aerospace is your stream for GATE 2009, what topics you will touch and what you will leave? Do share with me? And for the people who are preparing in aerospace for GATE 2009, Here i have made links from the web that will give bit size information about all the topics. You can use this web page to learn each topic everyday. I specially made to help me have bite size preparation while working from office

How to prepare for interview?

How to prepare for interview?

You have sent your resume and the resume has served its purpose and you got a call from the HR to come for a discussion. So what now? How should you prepare for the interview? What can you do? How to prepare? What to prepare?

Well here are some general suggestions that I can summon from my experience in this department. First this is you should go thorough your résumé that you had send them. Look what have you told or written in that resume. This is from where most of the questions will be asked. This is the place from where the interviewer will begin interviewing you.

Most of the questions will begin with him asking you to tell about yourself or tell about the projects you have worked on. So prepare this first question well. If you can give a good reply to this, you will gain the confidence in yourself and can tackle any question that you might get after this. First question paves the way for a better and positive result, so prepare it well. If you listed design of centrifugal compressor as your project, then know about it. Re-read all the basic theory that you have for the topic. And know the salient features of the project.

If you have mentioned some project, know about that project, if it's Saras you have worked upon. Know which engine it is using. If compressor is your work area, know its working principle so that you can explain it to a lay person easily.

Your resume will be your main showcase. So have consistent answers to according to the resume you have sent. Sometimes we send a resume, embellishing some facts here and distorting some to look good for our advantage. That's ok. Everybody does that, but know what you have written in your resume when you go for that interview.

Always keep the sent resume in mind before you answer any questions. After the resumes, most other questions come up from your answers you give. So reply in a tactful way. While answering steer clear of topics that you know you won't be good in answering. The interviewer will just need one word to catch you.

I have attended and listened to many interviews and from those I have seen that it’s not the interviewer who has the control of the interview. It’s the interviewee who has the control. He is the one who can lead it to any successful completion. So answer in such a way that the next question is asked on topics that you are comfortable answering. Lead the interview. In one of the interview, upon seeing my resume, the interviewer asked me to explain my project on axial compressor design and as I was explaining I mentioned entropy. He caught that word and then I had to answer 4 questions on entropy among which how many types of entropy caught me? So while answering choose your words correctly.

This are some of the points I could think of today. More some other time. So what are your experience, share them in the comments....

Study and Life Lessons from Natrajan Sir of GIE

I studied for my AeSI from GIE and among all the faculties, one that influenced me most is Mr. Natrajan sir, from principles of flights, to thermodynamics to propulsion to aerodynamics he took all the classes and what a marathon he did.

A typical class of Natrajan sir was filled with the subject, some practical tips and wisdom of his long experience. One common thread in all his lectures was his witty small, jokes that he inserted in his lectures. His slides were the rage and have his notes and then hear is explanation, he made the whole topics crystal clear.

So what are the 3 things that i took from him and that every AeSI students should consider implementing in his or her studies and life?

  • The first thing had to be the problem solving techniques he applied. His funda was simple begin from fundamentals. Begin from the root. Given a problem he always began from the basic and this is what he practiced and preached in all his classes. Be it a theory question or numerical problem, he went to root and came up with the answers out of those fundamentals. So apply that in your all studies. Efficiency of Brayton cycle. Don’t just mug up the formula. Know how it is coming from the fundaments and you will see the value of his teaching. Same way in principles of flights you are being asked about the question of reasoning… go to the basics. Root your answer from there.

  • The second thing that I learnt from Natranjan sir was his jest for teaching and learning. As I pointed in my previous post, he is the most energetic and enthusiastic teacher I have seen in my life. When he at his age can be so enthusiastic and energetic about his teaching and work, then I guess we AeSI graduates and students should take this quality from him. He is the perfect example to me of the person who enjoyed his jobs so much that he was one with it and the long hours didn’t sip his energies. This was one other thing that Natrajan sir teaches us. His attitude was positive to his teaching and I guess we all need to emulate that and we will be much happier in our careers if we can get this quality in our lives.

  • The third point has to be the related to the way he taught us. His style was informal and the use of imagination was immense. His notes were littered with example and his lectures had the vivid, memorable instances and examples so that the topic he was teaching become etched. He concreted his theories in lectures by giving solid in the world example. While teaching propulsion-1, I remember, he began all his topics with some of or other mentions of bikes and that really intrigues us. We all can use these techniques; relate what you are studying with the things that you have around you. Make the connections and see them on your mental black board. This is what Natrajan sir did. Paint a mental pictures of the concepts, make them large, life-size and see how clearly you understand the topic and how long lasting that particular topic will be .

  • Another tip in his teaching was that he always progressed from the known to the unknown. Always began the topic with the things we knew and then connected this known things to the unknown concepts of topics that he was lecturing us. This technique was very effective as this connected and made pictures in our mind. So take that from him and next time you are studying a new topic, begin from the known, connect, find path to the unknown and connect and see how that particular topic is understood more easily.

These were some of the things I could remember right now. I know they are not the all. I will publish other if I remember. I hope you apply this tips in your daily life in your studies and in your job. They are as applicable to the studies as in your jobs. Please do share your learning experiences with your lecturers here. ? Let’s make this post more informative by sharing your thoughts?

How to answer interview questions?

Paint a picture.

In his first interview he explined moment of inertia anything better
than the interviewer knew and he got selected. In his next interview
he floored the interviewers by his explaintion of optimization, same
way in an another interview he wowed the interviers by his insight on
working of gas turbines.

This is a real friend of mine and who has done great in all the three
interviews I mentioned.

His technique is simple, for any definition type question they ask on
general theory, paint a picture. Explain it in such a way that after
the answer, the person getting the answer would have a crystal clear
picture of the concept in his mind.

Whenever I saw him prepare, I noticed how he emphasized his
preparation on the basic concepts. He shunned the usual definitions
and went deep to understand what it is and then tried explaining that
concept.

So what can one learn from my friend.

Be clear of what you have studied and be prepared to explain the topic
such that it really shows that you know the subject.

For practise you can use the 101 aerospace questions that this blog
has to apply this concept.

Good luck

101 aerospace interview questions can be accessed by this link http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=101+questions
