How are you preparing for 2020
For those who were part of the AeSI AGM in 2014 might have heard this at the venue. For the rest here’s a snippet..
G M Rao, GMR chairman and current President of Aeronautical Society of India.
Addressing the annual general meeting (AGM) of the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI), Rao said that India was poised to become the third largest aviation market in the world by 2020. The total spending in the next two decades was expected to be $25 billion for commercial aircraft and $100 billion as defence expenditure.
He, however, said that the biggest challenge to meet the enormous growth potential of aerospace and defence sector would be skilled workforce. Though India has ample technically trained manpower, “there is dearth of personal with specialised skills, particularly in the sphere of aerospace”, he added.
So what does this mean for you?
And here's a question for you. How are you preparing for 2020?

Internship Experience By An IITian.
Below I am sharing that article,
I hope you will like that
Internships are the craze of the moment. One of my seniors said that it is always advisable to utilize each and every vacation of your college life and do something noteworthy for your CV! So I also asked my dad to liaison with his friends and ultimately I got a winter training at one of the steel plants. It was the first day of my 4 week vocational training and my dad introduced me to my mentor. After exchanging the pleasantries with my mentor, he asked me to follow him. First we were supposed to visit the STEEL MELTING SHOP.Follow me on facebook from here.
"So, you are from which college?" he asked me while typing a reply on his smart-phone.
"IIT-KGP sir," I replied with a sense of pride.
"That’s really nice. Which branch do you belong to?" He asked, looking into my eyes with a sense of admiration.
"I belong to metallurgy department, what about you sir?" I asked him.
"I am also from metallurgy department, IIT Madras. By the way, we have reached the STEEL MELTING SHOP."
He then showed me the huge furnaces, flow of molten metal and started explaining them briefly to me. After that I asked him a few inquisitive questions . He was able to answer almost all of them and I had started to admire him for his knowledge . After that we both went to a canteen as my mentor had not taken his breakfast and wanted me to accompany him for the same. The following conversation took place after he came ordering his dosa and coffee and sat in front of me.
"The entire process is so fascinating. It must be quite some fun working out there?" I asked him, and my mentor could read the exuberance on my face.
"Yes .. the process is very fascinating. But do you know .. I never enjoyed to learn all this facts and stats which I was telling you. Aeroplanes used to enthrall me a lot in my childhood days and I had made up my mind that one day I will design and develop new aerodynamic models. However, as you know, in IIT you don’t select the branch, THE BRANCH SELECTS YOU (based on your rank). And similarly I had to settle for Metallurgy. A senior there, introduced me to the concept of department change. I used to think that maybe we have to develop a project on a topic of our desired branch and I used to spend all my time reading and collecting data about the various aerodynamic models. It gave me immense pleasure and filled me with joy when I understood how exactly planes like BOEING 747 and Fighter Jets function. By the time I came to know that branch change was related only to the “PERFORMANCE IN SUBJECTS OF FIRST SEMESTER” all my dreams were shattered. Thereafter my grades suffered terribly . Do you know why did that happen?" He asked me, stirring his coffee with a spoon.
"I am really sorry to hear that, sir. And no sir, I don’t know." I replied and was anticipating a pretty stark reality by now.
“Right from my first semester, I rarely enjoyed the courses. A few courses were interesting, but I was all the more interested in learning about the working mechanism of an aeroplane. I used to miss majority of my classes, not because of my dedication to aerospace engineering, but because I could never really make sense why a few courses were being taught to us. I thus ended up with 1 F grade in my first semester and that ended my chances of securing a branch change. I was occasionally reprimanded at home for my grades. My parents never realised that AERONAUTICS was my forte. In the subsequent years , I had to give up on all of this as I was closing on a very poor CGPA and was thus left with the inevitable task of studying hard to score an acceptable CGPA.
Study, because if you don’t, you won’t be able to able to earn your bread and butter, and in doing so I sacrificed the thing which meant so much to me and which, according to me, was the only reason of my existence in IIT. And now you see, I am here before you, stating you all the facts and data which don’t really mean much to me. It was only that “BREAD AND BUTTER” phrase which caused to me give up on my passion. Your survival is thus inextricably linked with your CGPA not with your passion in IIT. I really wish something could be done to remedy this crisis. What is your CGPA at the end of first year by the way?" He asked with me, with a dry smile on his face.
"Umm.. I think we are done with the coffee and dosa. Maybe we should go and checkout the other departments?" was my reply and we both got up to visit the other departments.

7 Reasons Why You Should do Internship
We have syllabus which is almost half century old and this industry is at latest technology than how we are capable for its job..?
What we shall do to fill gap between academics and industry ..?
Answer of all above question is to do internship.
What is internship ...?
if we look at Wikipedia than it states as An internship is a job training for white-collar and professional careers. Internships for professional careers are similar in some ways to apprenticeships for trade and vocational jobs, but the lack of standardization and oversight leaves the term open to broad interpretation.
which means that you can have insight of an industry by having internship.
As a fresher it will be a added point to as compared to others when it comes to a point of job searching.
There are many advantages of having internship which you get read from here .But to be brief i will summarize that article bellow
- Gain work experience and transferable skills
- possibly earn money
- Be able to experience a prospective career path
- Gain practical experience
- network with professionals in your field for reference and future job opportunities .
- Develop new skills and refine others
- Gain confidence in your abilities.

First I would like to congratulate to everyone who had completed degree or passed paper and in case you had not passed exam as per your expectation than please don't get disappointed because a better future as well as a better result is waiting for you but for the time being get relaxed ,analyse what went wrong, what you can go to avoid it.
Once you clear AeSI you will feel that the you have won a very big battle of your life and I must say as you had not left AeSI and you were determinate through your journey of AeSI and strived ,challenged ,pushed your limits so in future you will never ever give up in any condition .I must say that AeSI gives the training at-least it did for me.
Joy of clearing one paper was more than clearing GATE for me and I am sure that completing M.Tech from IIT kharagpur will not give me as pleasure I had got when I completed AeSI.
Once again Congrats to all and also let me know about your result in comment section.
Thanks for reading ,

FAQ : What should I do after AeSI exams ?
- What should I do after AeSI exams?
Though there are many posts in this group which can help you to get the answer of above question. However based on my industry experience, I would like to bring one very important point in everybody's kind considerations.
Yesterday somebody was asking me where should I go to learn Modeling & Simulation.
- My answer is why do you want to go anywhere and invest your money when everything is available online.
- Take an example of MATLAB : There are so many video tutorials available which certainly are created to meet the requirements of students. Why don't you start spending one hour daily on learning MATLAB from such tutorials. Even you can download the trial version of such software.
- Most of such software organizations also develop their academic communities. Attend those communities and start discussing your projects worldwide.
- BUT does MATLAB means all about Modeling & Simulation ? or Is there any other way to do modeling & simulation. Google it ! and try to get the difference between Causal Vs. Acausal Modeling.
- Google and try to find out what is Modelica?
Examples of few Academic Communities:
1. CATIA V5 and V6 : Visit 3DS Academy at http://academy.3ds.com/
2. Reliability : Learn about reliability. You can also download FREE MTBF Calculator (Reliability Software) at http://aldservice.com/en/reliability-software/free-mtbf-calculator.html
3. MATLAB : Visit http://www.mathworks.in/academia/
4. Modeling & Simulation : http://academy.3ds.com/software/other-products/dymola/
5. FEA Software : http://academy.3ds.com/software/simulia/abaqus-student-edition/
6. ANSYS : http://www.ansys.com/Industries/Academic
All you need to have is a dedication.
Dedication about spending two hours daily online to learn and to stay yourself updated about the latest technology. It will not only help you to get updated but will also help you to connect with industry experts worldwide. In fact you could also reference your project and showcase it to the world, invite others to join your project and even find sponsors for your project.
This project work will also help you to do the facial of your resume which indeed will help in million ways at the time of interview.
In short, It's better to learn these software online rather than finding out a good training center in your community.
Happy Learning !

No Guarantees
1. Be good at one thing. The 'thing' doesn't matter. What matters is that you are better at one thing than anybody else. Build that skill. Hone it so much that its shines through even in dark. Being good at one thing and knowing about it will inject confidence.
2. Be a marketeer. Marketing is not a skill only needed by a corporation. You, as an individual, need it more. To market yourself. To market your creations. To showcase your work. To articulate and defend your thoughts. Even Apple's iPhone needs marketing. So cultivate marketing skills!
3. Be the salt. Ask any chef, or cook, whatever dish he or she prepares if there isn't salt, it isn't anything. Salt adds value. It completes the flavor. Same way aim to add value in whatever you do. Be it work, study, or any assignment. The more value you add, the more valuable you become.
An update:
In a weeks time, I am putting up something that will be useful for all AeSI students currently in section B or on the verge of training. So stay tuned.

Messy and haphazard
This is an expert from the book I am reading. The believing brain.
It's so true for a career path too. The career path you imagine and you take always do not follow a linear curve.
There will always be unexpected bifurcations like choosing one stream over other, serendipitous discovery of your own programming skills and unanticipated interview calls put in the industry.
So how to make sure that you are making the best of this fact. Well plan ahead but don't over plan. Keep the destination but allow the randomness to define the course.
If you are in section a, best advice is explore everything. If you are in section b, the advice is build an asset. Learn something and share it. If you are in your first job or in training, learn to say yes with new opportunity that come your way.

Surprise from AeSI !
Day before yesterday I got a call from Society and they asked me that "You are selected for OJT in CABS. Would you like to join?" Since I'm working in LDRA hence I told the same to the team so that they can consider any other profile in place of me.
It was a "WoW" moment for me. Even though many people said that it takes generally 6 months to get OJT but I got the same within just 20 days.
Add-on to it I've noticed many changes in AeSI which clearly indicates that we are on right track. Here I would like to thank & appreciate AeSIAA who is working continiously to promote brand-AeSI.
Conclusion :
Nobody is perfect but we can move/grow towards perfection by improving ourself and by learning from our mistake. If I want to blame anyone so I can find million reasons but now It's time to appreciate what AeSI is doing ? I'm proud to be an AeSI graduate and I always respect my degree.

Life of a Avionics Trainee !
We all know the taste of an apple. Come let's taste Avionics this time.
I'm sharing the real life training experience of an avionics student and due to confidentiality, I'm not sharing his name & the laboratory name where he is working as a trainee.
Hi Bhaiya
I’ll try to make it feel like a story instead of a report, I think it is a better way to make people understand by telling them a story along with a moral instead of making them feel that it is some kind of a report.
After trying very hard for 6 months by pulling strings ,repeatedly begging people ,I finally got the chance to do a project at **** in autopilot. So I’m happy and at the same time nervous , about how thing are going to be in **** , such a big organization and such scholar people, and I’m just a puny aesian who have just a little knowledge about control system.
Some how I reached there and meet my mentor , the profound scientist in autopilot. The first day he said I’m a very busy person ,I’m not going to give much time. You do what ever you can , show it to me , then I decide what to do and rest. I agreed. The division of **** I’m in , I didn’t knew that they only make missiles and have no interests in aircrafts. My mentor said draw me the control forces and the moments of a tail control missile , that was the first question. I have studied about aircraft for the 4 yrs but I have no knowledge about missiles, so I said I don’t know about missiles, but if u want I can draw you the control forces of an aircraft. He said ok, but I need the diagrams for missiles. He gave some books and said read this and come prepare tomorrow. Now ,how to draw the control forces diagrams of a thing which is complexed and unknown to me in one day. Still I read 2 , 3 chapters and went the next day.
That day I figured out what are the types of missiles, how they are classified, and so on.
Next day I went and I showed what have I done, mainly the diagrams of cp aft of cg for stability and the basic control surface movement from the book he gave me the previous day.
He saw the thing and said, no I don’t want this, just tell me how do you control a tail control missile?.
I was speechless and breathless. I shot few blank arrows ,nothing happened though and then I turned the page where there was a diagram of statically stable missile with cp aft of cg. I said the criteria for statically stable missile. He asked how do you control an unstable missile?
Again I went blank. He said studying one or 2 chapters won’t do study the full book. I was thinking how was it possible in a day, still I said sir can you me more books I can’t understand from the previous book. He gave some more books, and I said I will come back after I finish these, he said go.
I started reading those and got nothing, ‘cause they not the basic books and so I turned to check what aesi have suggested for rockets and missiles . I got SS CHIN there and started with that. The book was meant for the basic and I was happy.
I drew the control forces diagram along with the transfer function and went to him. He again asked me the same question how to control a unstable missile , I said it not possible using a single control surface.
He said tail control missiles have only one control surface, then he himself told me the answer which I knew but I thought that was not appropriate ‘cause you won’t get a proper stability using it, as there will be oscillation, but he said that is different but basic is this.
So that happened and next task he gave to design a 2 loop configuration of a missile pitch , yaw and roll autopilot and determine the gains. I thought I came here to learn it and he Is telling me to design it,wow.
After looking here and there in various thesis and algorithms which I didn’t understand I drew a design and showed him. He said I told just close the loop no compensators are needed, ne never said anything like that previously ,but still you can’t tell him anything. He said just close the loop and check the root locus, nyquist ,bode plot of the plant and the closed loop system. I asked , what should I checked for?
Then he gave the the design criteria’s , like the gain margin, phase margin, overshoot, settling time and others. He asked what datas are you using I said no datas, just the examples given in the books. He said come and use my thesis data .i was thinking who is a bigger **** me or he? I wasted my whole week looking here and there and now he is talking. Still i’m going to get his data tomorrow and start over again.
So what is the moral
-Know about the company you are aiming for.
-Complete the literature of your project and select a area of work before entering the company.
-Get a good mentor.
This is the story of a student who is in Section-B of Avionics and waiting for his final result. I hope by reading it you'll understand what is the job of a trainee ? What one does in internship ? and apart a real example of the quote : "Where there's a will, there's a way."
If you have something to share which can become a lesson to learn for others, so you're welcome.

Soft Skills !
Isn't it ? Let's discuss why these behavioral skills are important and a lot.?
###
Mr. X did his M.Tech from IIT-Chennai but he still could not get the job of his choice during campus placement. It's because he lacks in soft skills. These skills include communication, listening, negotiation, etiquette etc. Even though they are behavioral skills which can't be taught but it can be developed through continuous training. Where there's a will, there's a way. So let's find the area of improvement, work on it and start making impressions in front of others.
Etiquette matters a lot in terms of creating impression among your team leader & business managers. Let's take an example Mr. A & Mr. B both are working with Jet Airways as a technician and are eligible for promotion. Mr. A got promoted where as Mr.B is still working as a technician. What do you think about the possible reasons for the same. According to me It's because Mr. A is good in soft skills.
###
These skills are very important. It is about how you stand, wait in queue, manage your time, respect others and a lot. These are noticeable factors but for others these are important. It will also benefit you in the long run. Even in small talks like saying your greetings makes a world of difference while creating an impression.
(People from Switzerland has a fabulous habit of greeting others in written communication, even they used to tell others about the weather of their city while sending any mail. & Trust me It really impressed me so many times.)
Make a habit of proper Hand Shake with your business leaders, project managers, team leaders and seniors.
Make a habit of greeting others even in written communication.
Develop leadership quality along with the habit of creating new possibilities.
Try to find source of light even in darkness.
Have strong communication & behavioral skills.
Cheers !

Are jobs there for freshers ?
I'm writing this post because I've noticed many students creating negative environment about Aesi and saying that jobs are not there in the market for freshers & due to this many students quit Aesi.
First of all let me tell that community very clearly that "Winners don't quit & Quitters don't win" It seems bookish but It's a fact. Add-on to it we can't get everything under one roof specially when we are in Aesi.
Even It's written in "You Can Win" book that "It might be possible that without struggle you can get the job but It can't be a long term career."
Coming to the point, I'm sharing some screen shots here taken from LinkedIn which will show you the career path, the path which can lead to success. You'll find that the OJT training provided by the society is the first step of the ladder and to get this training there is a benchmark of 60%.
Specially the Section-A students, Don't follow the tradition of clearing papers with 50 and giving parties to friends after that. :p Trust me, ask your seniors once you'll come in Section-B It'll become very difficult to improve the percentage of Section-A.

Why AESI is not up to the mark for me? - an aesi students view
I am changing the name for obvious reasons. But the points raised by him are genuine and worth to ponder.
I have sent a brief reply to this email to him, will post the same here, latter this week.
Now over to the student of aesi......
hello sir,
I am tony, AVIONICS stream , cleared 16 papers so far(65.2%). I don't know what to say and what to expect from this email but still you asked me to shoot you a mail, so i'm writing this. When you wrote the last blog , then i got a little carried away
and wrote things that shouldn't be said or atleast the way i put it .
I'm sorry for that, but truely sir what i wrote was straight from the heart and if you think from our student side, then it won't be that wrong if you see.
What AESIAA is doing or trying to do, is very impressive and yes every one has a life and sorry for putting it that
way. What i want is that someone could carry my words to AESI, as i
can't do it myself as long as i haven't completed it, thats it, what i meant when i wrote it . I thing AESI doesnt deserve that kind of pride 'cause of the negligence it shows to students like us,and the lady who picks up the phone she is over smart, i think, don't even know the proper rules,
Why AESI is not up to the mark for me?
1) Absolutely no motivation from their side, u don't get credit on merit , nor deserving students are offered any job after completion, so when there is no motivation how one is supposed to study,
2) very elusive policies and rules, the rules regarding training and projects in sec-b are not clearly mentioned in any written notice, u have to call AESI to seek information and that stupid lady hungs up without even listening to your queries,
3) Syllabus not upto the mark what industry seeks from avionics,
students, nor it is suitable for GATE, we have to study a hell lot extra to cover it up, its not so in case of aero-mechanical though,
4)Wont give authority to any college , like IGNOU so they can train us
the way they want and practical can be included.
5) i don't understand every organisation wants to see its growth , but why not AESI ? its going the other way round, its being decades since
the foundation of AESI, progress is nil not slow,
6) The curriculum does n't encourages quality students, most of the students who are present in AESI are simply 'cause they didn't get
chance in good colleges not like me who want to study aeronautics ,,
7) there is a huge void between passing of 20 papers and getting a job
'cause :-
a) No one knows AESI that well
b) % marks are not good of majority of students
c) no practical knowledge only theoretical, so that effects confidence of the student itself
d) to gain practical knowledge u have to get training from organisations which are mostly unpaid and u have to pay them instead, so that kills time, money ,patience and aesi is not be bothered about it
8) "u are 21 \22 yr u are an engineer and working for a good company "
chances for either of this case or both to occur is tending to 0% i believe
Sir , i have spit it out, i don't know how will you take it but i certainly can't feel proud of an organization which
lacks this qualities, i'm very sorry sir, my apology again.
-Tony

Investment in Knowledge
best interest"
Whatever you do, which ever stage of your life you are invest in
knowledge.
Be it in section a, section b or training or in job, keep a small time
slot to learn something new everyday.
Little things learnt everyday will become massive. Always remember the
power of compounding. So start today.

A good programmer must be a good debugger !!!!
1. I do remember my first day "ORIENTATION DAY", it's the time when company educate the candidates about what we shall learn in the upcoming days? What is company's expectations ? & also educate about the journey of company till today. I observed that many candidates don't understand the importance of it, they feel that it's just an Induction training ... we'll not learn anything in it... however actually It's the best time for you to learn few things like : how the management team is delivering the things, in case of unexpected questions asked by the team...... what is the approach they are going to use..... , there leadership skills and a lot.......
2. I'm sharing one incident with you which happened with me. There is something called "DATA TYPES" in C language, Even though I have learned them so many times but I have realized later that I don't know even a single thing. So whenever we learn something again, it's obvious we shall learn new concepts.
"Suppose you are a developer and you have been assigned to make a simple program to get the age of a traveler of Indian Railways, It's simple that you'll use INT (int a;) however my trainer explained me that how selecting wrong data type affects the cost of the project. A survey says that daily 2 million people travel in Indian Railways, an INT data type consist of 8 bit (let's say) , a normal human age can be max. of 99 (in general) which is 1100011 in binary.... hence for a single customer 1 bit is wasted... and for 2 million people... 2 million bits .... and to store the data for 3-4 months ... (??????? Oh my God !! ???????) now analysis that how much memory is wasted ; and to have this memory how much cost you require.... "
So I want to suggest that never consider anything like it's damn simple... we should try to think/analysis different aspects of everything. There must be a proper use of grammar in any program script. Even Sukhbiner Singh also says that a programmer must be a good in debugging.
Cheers !!!!!

One cannot learn engineering........
I think AeSI engineering graduates and students should read this.
Please go ahead and read it here
http://susam.in/blog/infosys-tcs-or-wipro/?mid=57
Overall i agree with the author and the part that resonated with the most was this.
"One cannot learn engineering and programming merely by attending trainings. One has to learn it by doing, solving problems, observing what experienced engineers do, experimenting, screwing up a few times and reworking, talking to good engineers, etc. "
I had a similar experience when I was in NAL. Working under Dr Ramamurthy presented me the opportunities to work on so many varied engineering problems.
From gas turbine calculation, to designing a combustion chamber cooling fin, from designing mixed flow compressor to creating a database for efficiently storing all the engineering drawing produced by the lab, from running small gas turbine engine test to creating small Matlab codes to analyze the results. From solid modeling compressors to developing c software to receive and interpret data from a gps of micro air vehicle. I did it all.
This is why you will find how strongly I advocate people doing some kind of work in these labs. You can find all these posts at the following link http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=training
Thanks Himalya for sharing that post.
Keep up the good work!!

You never get a second chance to make "first impression" !!!
I am sharing some interview related tips & I believe that it will help you a lot in your professional life.
Please note that you never get the second chance to make a first impression. Isn't it? so be careful because someone said that first impression is the last impression.
Some points are here to remember:
- Smile is one of the thing which matters in your impression. Good smile always please people.
- Dressing is also an important thing. You should be in formals. It is important aspect at the time of interview. Dressing should be appropriate for the post and the company. Try to get information about what the company would expect from employees. What would be appropriate for a building company is very different for a public relations agency. Be well-groomed and clean and above all try to look confident. Mahesh Batra (http://in.linkedin.com/pub/mahesh-batra/b/31b/2a9), Manager - Training at iEnergizer always says that your dressing matters a lot in your professional life and it also increases your confidence by 10 times.
- Do not forget to handshake in a proper manner.
- Eye contact without glaring shows your confidence. It is one of the most important aspects of nonverbal communication and can make a significant difference in how you present yourself. If you look away when speaking to someone, you are viewed as lacking confidence or interest. So always answer the question with eye contact to interviewer.
