Theme of the year!!!

Well  this  is  the  random quote  that came up as i opened my  gmail account!!  well  liked it immediately  and  now  this  year in 2006, it will be my  theme of the year.

 

The more you know the less you need to say!!!!  so know  more, i am  known to be not  so gregarious, and  it  might seem that  its shouldn't be the right  thing  for me. But hey, i don't  know what this quote said to  you, but  to me it shouted know more!!!! 

 

With  my resolutions almost ready to be finalised,  i  hope  i complete them  fully this year, last year's resolutions were too steep and  too broad so this  time i have taken care to make them  clear cut and  not  let some loose ground to go around them. 

 

Most of them involve my career  this time and i  hope i will complete each and every one of  it.

 

 

With  2005  has given me a lot, i hope the coming year  fulfill all my wishes and gives me the power to  do  what i would like to  do  the most in the world  that is to make a difference!!!

Loved this great quote!! It's sums up what you can do when you AeSI
hands a totally unexpected ugly surprise!!

I have gone through this when in VMD paper I was sure I will get
around 80 and AeSI slamed fail!! Was devatated. Back fired for
recunting but no change was the response.

This is when my mom said something similar that the above quote
expresses.

Many senior members of aesi are working on improving the unexpected
surprises so till then learn to adust the sails!! Set them in such a
way that whatever be the wind your boat sails to the coast!!

25 august 2009 marks the 400th anniversary of Galileo's telescope!!

And sentiments in the quote mentioned above by Galileo is exactly what
anyone learning a new software tool like catia, solidworks,
nastran,ansys etc. should aim to achieve!!

When you are too fondful of a subject to be fearful of the mistakes,
you are truly enjoying and learning from the experience.

Aim for the time, you can genuninly utter similar words for your
chosen work, profession, project or life!

Before you hunt for Catia, Nastran, UG, solidworks, ANSYS etc training centers

Getting pretty good at things is merely a first step, but one that you need to take in order to be ready to spend the money to get great.

This is a quote from a recent post of Seth Goldin titled Why aren't you (really) good at graphic design?

Now what does that mean. Essentially what he says is that self learning should come before you shell out some money to the institutes. Before you hunt for Catia, Nastran, UG, solidworks, ANSYS etc training centers.

This applies more to AeSI students as we lack the facilities that graduates from other institutions get by default. With labs and dedicated tutors these things come as part of the curriculum. But for AeSI, your initiative is the weapon.

And you know what? Getting pretty good in catia, nastran or any other software, programming language is the matter of sitting with the software one hour each and every day. IF you can discipline yourself to put in that one hour.... your are on your way to be pretty good at that software.

Net is an abundant source. Google's technology is there then what is stopping you. Put in that hour.

Once you have done this you will not have much doubt to choose which CATIA training centre or NASTRAN training centre to go to get great in that software!!!

I’m sorry to break this to you, but if you spend your time analyzing data and Excel is your primary tool, then you must use VBA. I’m not telling you should be a programmer, far from it. But you should be able to record a macro and make some simple tweaks. There are many repetitive tasks that can easily done using three lines of code.

Unfortunately lost the source of the quote but very true.

Here's the learning stairs route that I can suggest for anyone wanting to master excel.

1. Learn the 50 common basic formulae.
2. Learn the useful shortcuts of excel
3. Then go for recording small macros!
4. Then start tweaking it.
5. Next read more about VBA and apply it in editing your macro.
6. After this to excel help file and pour over it's documentation.

This are the steps. There is no direct lift to VBA programming. Learn this via this steps you will climb much faster.

make you master at that tool. It's their application.

It's the action that makes you the ninja.

So take action. That's where the real power lies.

Measure what is measurable to succeed in everything you do including AMAeSI

Last week when I wrote the post begining with Galileo's quote, I had
in mind the previous words of wisdom from the man called father of
science.

I have already mentioned it but it's worth repeating. "Measure what is
measurable and make it which is not!!"

What Galileo is referring is measure your progress or efforts. If you
don't you won't be improving.

So are you following this in your life?

Ever since I have began measuring my blog posts and my other goals, I
have steadily progressed and now I have a better sense of where I am
on my projects and goals. So this simple measurement and tracking
different metrics has increased my efficiency.

So are you tracking yours?

If you ask me one advice that you want for this semester then this is
the one. Measure what is measuable. It might be the number of hour you
study? The number of hours you spend on any software?

Add a tip of Galileo's wishdom in your journey of AeSI!!

First Hand Knowledge

Measure What is Measurable

'...measure what is measurable and make measurable what is no so...' -Galileo

If you are learning a new tool, a new software, a new skill, a new method then always remember Galileo's rule.

Measure the measurable. whatever is being measured will improve. This is what the core of the matter. If you want improvement in your resolution or goals measure them regularly!

During my days in NAL, I was actively measuring the time I spent on the tool that I learnt there. From Matlab to Solidworks, from Nastran  to visual basic, from scripting to drawing I noted the no of hour I spend on each activity.

As no of hour I put in help me see what I was learning and it had improved my learning process a lot. It enabled me to learn many tools and have an hands on experience on many of them in the period of the time that I have spend in NAL.

So measure. I am doing the same with my declared resolutions of this year and I am glad that I am working on them till now and barring the scripting thing I am doing pretty good. Here’s the snipped of the chart of my resolution measurement.

How are your progressing on yours? measure your goals Galileo is not wrong in the above quote. It works. Not only as a motivation but this regular reviewing helps reinforce the goals that you have.

if opportunity doesn't knock, build a door

I just discovered this entry in my journal which i wrote when I was doing training in NAL. And i think its still relevant now, so posting it here

A very common thing that I gave heard my co-trainees say while in training is "where is the work" ? Yes i admit, this comes as a part of life, you are in government institution and i expect delay, lethargy and some of it will wash down to you, but then this is no reasons to be disturbed.

Three things are always with you, your initiative, your intelligence and motivation.

So why fret and make your life more frustrting by repeating no work , no work.

Aree yaar you are aesi guys, aesi products and one they don't lag behind is self study, self enhancement. The fact some of you are here is this self-reliance. So Use it.

You have access to top class softwares, use them, learn them, increase familiarity with them. This is the way to uilize your time there, if your scientist doesn't give you the kind of work you want, then remember this quote from TOI said "if opportunity doesn't knock, build a door". Always have this in your mind.

A few simple steps can help you to clear this frustrations. Stagnancy is death, so keep flowing

Be a realist and connection between opportunity and initiative

Can Dabbling in section A create a rich AeSI experience?

Read this today and it instantly clicked with me.

From my days in aesi and in my writings in myaesi, I have been giving
this same message.

Read it.

"A great use of dabbling is actually to discover the best long-term
commitments for you to make. So dabble for discovery. Then commit for
mastery."

Dabbling is trying out different things. Giving randomness a chance.

This is what I ask students of section a of aesi to do. You have time.
So in section a, after your studies. Explore.

Do whatever takes fancy of you at that time. Don't worry if it will
help you in future or not. If you like doing it just try. Try things
out. More you dabble the better.

As the above quote says, this exploration will lead you to things that
you want to continue doing. So make a commitment and do them in
section b and beyond.

For me it was developing code, trying new things with it. And learning
about new future tech.

For me, Dabbling in section A did create a rich AeSI experience.
