Luck and AMAeSI exams

Brian Tracey's formula for being luckier:

"Luck is quite predictable. To have more luck, take more chances."

Don't short circuit your chances by not even trying.

Brain Tracey is spot on. Applies equally well to getting job, training and passing exams!!

The halo effect and AMAeSI exams

When I was in school, my teacher always used to insist that answer your best question first.

He has stated this so many times that it has become a part of my exam mentality.

Almost all exams I have given after class vii I have answered my best question first.

I was recently reading this book and it mentioned halo effect. The effect of the first impression.

The author, a university professor mentioned that while checking papers he felt that if the first question went well, then the rest of the answers he scored were on average better. If doubt crept, the professor tend to lean towards his first impression.

So he observed that a student scoring good points in first questions, usually got more marks than the other.

Similar thing happens while interviewing someone, if the first question is answered well then for the rest of the interview, halo effect takes control and the guy sails through and little gaps in his performance are ignored or justified, but the opposite happens if the first impression is bad.

How can this help you in the upcoming exams?

Ponder over it. And if you believe the halo effects works then why not use it to your advantage?

Best of luck for your exams!!

For some of you, amaesi exams are over, for some it will be over soon. Here I want to discuss a simple but powerful thing that you can do immediately to improve your aesi performance next time.

Access the exams you gave. How they went? What was good about each subject paper? What was bad? Which one you did good? Why it was good? Which one you didn't perform well? What lessons you can extract from that? How will you do it better if you have to do it all over again?

Posting frequency and one exam study tip

From the post frequency, you can determine that I am quite busy with
things other than the blog.

In fact, I am not busy but I am in fluid state of lots of travel and
being in Indian weddings!! So am not able to find any time to sit and
post anything substantial for you.

Hope this explains the gaps of posts. Will resume the regular
programming once I get past this state by the end of this month!!

By the way, here's a simple tip to accelerate your exam preparation.

Speed up your pace of study. Read more quickly, write at increased
speed.

Increase your pace. Just speeding up and working at more than the
normal rate has two effects. It will save you time as you will cover
more in the same time. Since you are studying a pace not your normal,
brain will work extra to caputure and won't fall to it's default mode.

So get going, if you are giving this semesters amaesi exams, best of
luck.

AMAeSI December 2010 is on..,

Anil, a reader of this blog has just confirmed that the next AMAeSI
exams are scheduled to begin on 6th december.

Incidently it's my mom's birthday that day. I remember a day back in
my AeSI day when I was in khagpur iit for my Amaesi exam and went to
the exams by wishing mom over the phone from an STD shop while walking
towards the IIT center.

As I remember. It was thermodynamics exams and I passed it with flying
colours. I wish the same to you!

By the way, thanks Anil!!

When is the December 2010 AMAeSI exams?

Well as always queries related to this type become more frequent in
october.

Every other day someone wanders to this website and raises this
question.

My only source is www.aerosocietyindia.in, official website of
aeronautical society of india. And visiting that revealed nothing on
the date.

So I am turning to my next best source, the readers of this blog. As
they are more into aesi, this type of information travels to them
first. So can someone tell us when are the next amaesi exams!!

As always, thanks in advance!!

Also note: Did you know, there's an aesi essay competetion running at
the aesi's website. Check it out.

AeSI is like.......

AeSI is like riding an untamed horse which has no saddle. You just sit
on it's back and hold on tight and hope that you won't fall down from
it. The direction it takes are govenned by your reactions to it's
movement.

This is how a friend of mine described his AeSI experience.

How do you describe your days in AeSI?

How will you complete the sentence

AeSI is like.......

On a side note, anyone aware when the results are out for June 2010
AMAeSI exams?

Inertia strikes back

Writing after a break is always difficult. The inertia builds up and
it takes energy to start. You know you have to do it but you aren't
able to take an action.

This is what I was facing a moment ago. The last post I wrote was on
Friday and then I just had this long break. I thought of writing a
post yesterday but wasn't able to get past the first line.

Yesterday I even had an idea for the post. Today it was lot harder as
I didn't know what I was going to write, so I began with what I was
doing.

That little flow, that initial first steps, those first words then
tumbled me down so far. And I have realized that the best way to break
any inertia is to start. Start from where you are. Take a action
however silly, small or unsound it maybe!!

Applies very well to the present situations, when you are just back
from your home town or after the little study break after amaesi exams.

So if you are feeling the inertia and putting things off to tomorrow
for some reason or other, start now. This very moment!!

Yes this moment. I will stop this so you can start now!!

Do this once you get your AeSI results?

Do an investigation on why you got the marks you got?

Be it less or more than your expectation.

Sit down alone and bring out the question papers and examine why and
how you might have got the marks that you got.

Be honest. This exercise is just for you. So be honest. Give yourself
marks and see how they stack up.

This is where you will gain insight on how to write future exams. This
simple session will open your mind to the lessons that the post exam
examination has to offer.

So don't miss this step. Learning from your mistakes, reflecting on
your past actions is a strong step towards being good the next time.

Good luck with your results!!

Will I recommend AMAeSI?

Like every year, this time of the year I always get this or similar
query. This year I have got this query more times than I could ignore,
so here's my answer once and for all.

AMAeSI as a BE graduate program is great. It has produced many good
engineers and as AMAeSI graduates in the industry has stated again and
again, that they feel AMAeSI has given them all the knowledge to be
the best in the world.

If you have a doubt about the quality of the program, shed them right
here. Search this blog for "proud AMAeSI" and you will see all
testimonials praising the program.

That being said, "Will I recommend AMAeSI to my younger brother/sister?"

The answer is a big NO!!!

Yes no. No no and no.

Quality of program is one thing. But what really matters is what the
brand is. AMAeSI as a brand is very poor. Partly because of its
distributed nature but mostly because of AeSI!

The governing body which conducts this exams, do not do anything else
for the students and graduates. The body that has the responsibility
of lifting you, here discards you. The body which has to be your
ardent supporter just turns the other way.

And when the Gardner himself has no regards for flowers of his garden,
how can you expect others to respect them.

And yes till now, I have not talked about the passing rate, not about
the erratic question patterns, not about the shabby distant treatment
of students.

So if you are thinking of AMAeSI, just after class twelve. I will urge
you to find a different way. Do not trod this road?

Please search this blog for more info and I hope you will get a fair
idea.

Good luck.

What's your plan after AMAeSI exams?

In next week AMAeSI exams will be over. So what you planning to in the
coming lull in your studies?

What are your plans apart from visiting home?

If you guys let me suggest something, then I will ask you to enjoy
fully and just take up learning one programming language.

No I don't want everyone of you to be a programmer. I want you to
learn a language so that, in future at work, some common tasks can be
automated.

Knowing a language and skills to use it, can greatly enhance your
productivity. So learn a language. Explore myaesi to know which one to
learn.

Well that was my suggestion? What's your? State them in the comments.

One simple yet effective way of getting good marks in any exams!!

One of the simplest and very effective and mostly ignored way of
getting good marks in any exams is to avoild silly mistakes.

Yes silly mistakes.

Be mentally prepared to avoid them. That's the only way to handle this
mistakes.

Be it any subject, from fluids to flights, from propulsion to
aerodynamics, being watchful of silly mistakes can make or break your
marks!!

Before you go for exams and in the week ahead of the exam, train your
mind to be alertful. Train it to think and do the tasks, train it to
filter the mistakes. Train it to be watchful!

This simple mental exercise of keeping an intent of being watchful is
enough to have an alert mind during the examination hall. So begin
today and have successful exams!!

Good luck!!

What are they really testing you in an examination hall?

In the examination hall, your knowledge is NOT the only thing at test!!

Examination hall tests your time management skills, handling pressure
and understanding the question correctly!!

Knowledge is the means for the test, scores come from them, but if you
fail to complete the paper in time or fail to understand the actual
question, your score will falter.

Remember this, in the examination hall, handling the pressure,
managing time and understanding and giving the right answer is the
only way to get a good score. So concentrate on them in the
examination hall.

That's your true test in an examination hall!!

For those who are giving exams, good luck and keep the time and
question in mind before answering!!

Focus and how it can create wow effect for our life

My friend is visiting me and i am using his canon 1000D camera a lot.

It's ability, unlike my digi camera, to focus on only the focused
object and blurring the rest makes the pictures so great!! They look
so nice.

And we all are enjoying the undecided focus.

This is lot like the focus in our life, if we try to focus on two many
things in our frame, we won't capture anything worth wowing!!

But just like this camerra, we need to focus on the subject and blur
the rest. And it creates that wow.

The camera uses its own technology to acheive this and we can use our
minds self discipline.

So get going. Focus !!
