GATE 2009 results and score

If you have sat for gate exam 2009 then you must be waiting for the 15th march 2009. This is the day when results of gate 2009 are being announced. It will be announced at 10:00 hrs. at GATE offices and on the websites of IISc and seven IITs.

Some things to know about the GATE 2009 score card

  1. GATE 2009 score is valid for ONE YEAR ONLY from the date of announcement of the GATE 2009 results. That is the score card will be valid for March 15 2010 for those who get it on march 15th!!!
  2. The GATE scores to both qualified and non-qualified candidates will be provided on the GATE websites.

Did you know

  • Did you know that your qualified gate results may be made available to interested organizations (educational institutions, R & D laboratories, industries, etc.) in India and abroad based on written request by the organization and on payment?
  • And requests for revaluation of the answer script (ORS) and re-totaling of marks will not be entertained.

Another interesting fact about your GATE score.

Your gate score depends on this following factors

  • Marks obtained by the you.
  • Average of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE 2009
  • Standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE 2009
  • Average (global) of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years 2006-2009
  • Standard deviation (global) of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years 2006- 2009

you might want to try this address for the gate 2009 results on march 15th

Good luck folks!!!

GATE previous years papers and tips for Effective Way to Attempt GATE Paper

Yes if you are looking for gate previous year papers then this link below is your choice to be go.

http://forum.onestopgate.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2416

Unfortunately it doesn’t contains the AE papers yet… :(  but for

ECE,CS,ME,EE,IT,PY GATE papers from year 1991 are available on this site for free. So grab…

Another link I want to share with you is about Effective Way to Attempt GATE Paper Objective Solving Tricks  the link here

and some of the general tips that I liked are

  • Keep the structure of GATE in mind.
  • Plan your time. Allow more time for high point value questions; reserve time at the end to review your work, and for emergencies. I'll suggest following sequence, but you can keep as per your choice:
    • 2 Marks question,
    • Linked questions and
    • then single mark questions.
  • Look the whole test over, skimming the questions and developing a general plan for your work. If any immediate thoughts come to you, jot them down in the margin
  • Start with the section of the test that will yield the most points, but begin working with the easiest questions to gain time for the more difficult ones and to warm up.
  • Work quickly, check your timing regularly, and adjust your speed when necessary.
  • Avoid reading into the questions. When you find yourself thinking along the lines of "this is too easy; there must be a trick..." mark the question and move on to another.  Interpret questions literally.
  • Mark key words in every question. To help find the key words, ask yourself WHAT, WHO, WHERE, WHEN, and HOW?

Very practical and easy to apply tips from the forum, Be sure to read all the other tips here

Gate 2009 is upon us

gate-2009 Gate 2009 is upon us, if you are in AeSI and in the fag end stages of section B then you might be investing your lot of times in the preparation of gate.

So I thought why not remind you of a post that might help in that. Couple of months back I wrote a post on types of questions asked in gate and how to tackle them.

I think its high time for the gate aspirants to look at those questions and set their minds to the question patterns. This will enable your mind to get used to the questions and the pattern they will follow.

This time many AeSI folks complained that questions in AeSI were ill set and didn't looked anything like the previous years, at least in gate, we AeSI folks don't have this problem. We know the pattern and as I already discussed here gate questions are rooted in basics and its application so during this last days concentrate on the basics!

Don't mug formulas, derive them. Understand the concepts, Draw graphs and diagrams and most importantly discuss. These are some of the ways to get the best of the time you have got till the GATE 2009 on 8th February.  Good luck!

Type of questions asked in GATE and why knowing them will help you?

gate-2009 GATE is all about concepts and its application. All about getting to the basics!! And another advice that surfaces if one looks for studying for gate is do lots of questions.

Why?  Why do lot of questions?

well let me answer, this is just my wild idea, I would like to love to hear what’s your take on this in comments?

Why people say previous year question helps. one main reason that previous years question is that they make you aware of the type of questions that come. So effectively. this exercise of taking questions means you train your mind to find the type of questions that come in the gate exams.

So why not analyze the type of questions that you get in GATE. What will be the benefit.? Well for one your mind will know the type of questions and when you study for the GATE 2009 exams, your mind will subconsciously or consciously try to retain the information and match the patter that you are studying to possible questions that might come in GATE

so here are the types of questions that are asked in GATE

(i) Recall:

These are based on facts, principles, formulae or laws of the discipline. The candidate is expected to be able to obtain the answer either from his/her memory of the subject or at most from a one-line computation

(ii) Comprehension:

These questions will test the candidate?s understanding of the basics of his/her field, by requiring him/her to draw simple conclusions from fundamental ideas.

(iii) Application:

In these questions, the candidate is expected to apply his/her knowledge either through computation or by logical reasoning.

(iv) Analysis and Synthesis:

These can be linked questions, where the answer to the first question of the pair is required in order to answer its successor. Or these can be common data questions, in which two questions share the same data but can be solved independently of one another.

So these are the four type of questions that you will face in gate. Once you know them, you are better prepared to study for it.

Hope this helps everyone who are studying for GATE!! Tell me how you study for gate?

Some important changes in GATE 2009 that you should take note!

my previous post said the examination forms will be available be available from the 22nd of this month.. what's-new-in-GATE-2009

GATE 2009 has many new changes coming in that  you might want to know. Here are some of the changes that have come into GATE. Take note AeSI guys they might affect your score and final preparation

  • From GATE 2009, the validity of GATE score will be ONE YEAR only
  • There will be 1/3 negative marking for wrong answers
  • There is a Change in Structure of GATE Papers in GATE 2009
  • In GATE 2009 examination paper will be of 3 hours duration and will contain 60 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks. The question paper will consist of only multiple choice objective questions.  Each question will have four choices for the answer. Only one choice will be correct. Candidates have to mark the correct choice on an Optical Response Sheet (ORS) by darkening the appropriate bubble against each question.

I guess the one with one year validity will affect you the most. What do you think?

Now one third of the marks will be cut for a wrong answer.

Apart from this some papers have been  been dropped nothing important for AeSI guys but if you want to know click here.

Gate 2009 how are you preparing?

Gate 2009 are you preparing for it? What is your strategy for it? A student mailed me with the following question, "which course or institute is best for gate 2009?" while lot of materials is available. And every town city is littered with institutes preparing you for gate, i believe there is no need of them.

If you have studied your BE honestly then brush up all your basics and do lots and lots of sample papers, that's the best way to crack gate.

Gate examination is not like regular exams, it tests your basics, your applicability skills, so build them and you won't have any difficulty cracking your gate exams.

If aerospace is you subject of choice then in this blog i've something that might help you in your quest. Just search gate preparation in this blog.
