a new calendar for OURAESI use it

What good is a calendar? Why we use it ad why we need to do it for OURAeSI.

Lets start wilt wikipedia

"The primary practical use of a calendar is to identify days: to be informed about and/or to agree on a future event and to record an event that has happened. Days may be significant for civil, religious or social reasons.

Calendars are also used to help people manage their personal schedules, time and activities, particularly when individuals have numerous work, school, and family commitments. People frequently use multiple systems, and may keep both a business and family calendar to help prevent them from over committing their time."

Well after reading what wikipedia has to say about use of calendars, I wondered why don't we have a calendar for OURAeSI club. I mean its a community and we have lot that we wanted to know about so hwy not have something like a calendar.

Though it features a calendar but I found Google calendar is much more versatile and open and easy to use, so I planned to have that calendar for OURAeSI

Well while I was reading these things i remembered that I missed this year’s OURAeSI birthday, so a calendar is important and will help it more organized and keep its members more informed.

What am I planning to put in the calendar?

Following is the list of things that I came up

1> birthday and important events of ouraesi,

2> exam schedules of aesi

3> important announcement dates of AeSI

4> any user submitted event related to aesi

5> local aerospace related events in Bangalore

6> Job walk-in info as and when it happens

The club being a community so you all can submit your event request. The calendar will be available freely online.

And I hope it will real help and will be useful in time to come.

Finmeccanica -tips for telephonic interview

I got the following mail...

Dear Sir

My name is Fahimudeen, I have got interview from Finmeccanica, can you provide me details for the first assessment telephonic interview so as to prepare. My interview is schedule to be on June 8th , If u send me details of what they are particular about. It will be great help to me to prepare, waiting for your earnest reply as early as possible.

Fahimudeen .K

and here's my reply

It’s good that you have got a call. Well for preparations please do learn as much as you can from Finmeccanica site about the program that they are offering and what does Finmeccanica does. Know what they do and how you can fit into it.

Most of the questions asked in first assessment will be non-technical, more related to questions which seek demonstrated examples of behavior from your past experience and concentrate on job related functions. They will inquire about your motivation for getting into this program, why you want an international career.?

The questions will seek examples from your working life.

The questions that they ask are as follows

1. What is your motivation of doing this course?
2. Why do you want an international career?
3. Describe a situation where you have worked with people with different culture?
4. Describe a situation when you did something out of your initiative in your present or former job.
5. Tell us an experience in your previous or present job where you did play a critical role and had accepted a challenge and what was the outcome?
6. What do you know about Finmeccanica?
7. How do you work as a team, give one example where teamwork really helped?

Ponder on these points and be prepared with real-file examples out of your life to answers this question. This isn’t technical round.

Apart from checking your motivation for doing the course they will also see and judge your communication skills. So do take extra care on speaking slowly and clearly while on phone. They have a different assent and for them you have a different ascent so be slow and clear.

Also search Google for techniques for telephonic interview and adhere to them.

Here are some suggestions for tackling story-based questions

* Analyze your own background. What skills do you have (content, functional, and adaptive) that relate to your Finmeccanica objective?

* Identify examples from your past experience where you demonstrated those skills. How can you "tell a story" about your use of particular skills or knowledge? Remember that a good story has a beginning, middle and end.

* Wherever possible, quantify your results. Numbers illustrate your level of authority and responsibility.

* Be prepared to provide examples of when results didn¹t turn out as you planned.
What did you do then?

Hope this helps. Best of luck and keep us informed.

What hiring managers hate about your resume?

What hiring managers hate about your resume?

Read an interesting blog post that I think everyone in the club will be interested in. The tile of the post is "What hiring managers hate about your resume"

A good post indeed and the author points out Grammatical/spelling errors, unexplained date gaps in work experience, Bad formatting etc, among many things that one must not be guilty of.

Although he mentions IT but these resume-guilt’s are very much applicable to our field. So check out the link

Five tips for studying for exams

Worriers! Exams are nearing and everyone I hope is gearing up for them. Great, so I thought why not share a few things that I did during examination that eased mine anxiety.

Loud speaker: when it comes to reading, read out load this is much more effective than simply reading in mind. While reading in mind can distract you, but listening to your own voice reinforces what you read. I did this P3, wt and many other papers where theory was predominant

Walk: When you are writhing sitting is mandatory, but if you are reading and memorizing stuff, roam around in room or rooftop and you will find that you are recalling and retaining the stuff more easily. Moreover there’s is no chance you will fall asleep!!!

Dream : While going back to sleep, don't think about how exams will go or what the paper be like, instead apply the technique of reviewing what you have read the whole day, Try questioning the formulae and equations that you encountered that day. See then in your minds blackboard.

Mental rehearsal: Rehearse mentally. Mine favorite and it worked for me. They say that we learn more when we teach, so while lying in bed, imagine yourself in class and see in your minds board all things drawn that you have learnt on that particular day. Use vivid images, smell, and objects to reinforce the concepts. I studies propulsion so it was easy to imagine the compressor rotate and see the whole gas turbine engine work in mind. In your case use your imagination.

Talkback: some of the things that I remember most vividly of the study materials that I have studied are the ones that I have talked about with my friends and roommates, The topics that we discussed are still clear in mind. So use this technique to engrave a particular concept, topic in your mind. I am sure you will never forget a velocity triangle of a compressor once you have lively discussion on that.

Lots of breaks: Study without breaks is like no study at all. I remember an advert in one paper which claims that as our brain tiers; its capabilities diminish, so take frequent breaks. Well I don't know how true the claim was, but when I took breaks after a specified period of study, I was rejuvenated for sure. And put in longer hours. So take breaks often and when you again sit for a study session, set a target that you will get up after this particular task is done.

Teashop: While we were in Chennai, my roommates and we were famous for walking to a distant teashop for tea. Everyone used to wonder why we take such a long stroll for the tea? Some suspected a girl is involved, but none was true, we did it because it gave us the necessary exercise and after a long walk and talk about topics not related to study, we were refreshed. Tea was just an excuse. So take walking breaks. Go to that distance shop in group but be on time and come back and don’t get carried away in the masti.

Write: best way to practice a thing is to write it, my mom used to say that, and from the beginning I stuck with this and I always used to revise my stuff with a pencil and paper, I drew, explained and jotted important points as I revised. I was and am poor in spelling and this habit had improved a lot......

So here you are little tit bit of info that I used, some of them you might be using now, some might strike odd. But believe me they worked for me and I know they will work for you. Give them a try...

Best of luck worriers!!! Reach for the stars!!

NASA the ultimate destination

Well I have been visiting nasa.gov (NASA’s official site ever since I have joined AeSI) I visited it regularly and do so now, but now there is one difference. As you all might have learnt that Bishnujee singh is part of NASA mission, so now visiting NASA I feel proud that one of the AeSI guy is out there.

As one of my close friend was saying to me just a week back, Being and working is NASA is the ultimate glory of an aerospace / aeronautical engineer. Others may pay or give you more but NASA is truly the Mecca of aerospace engineer and now knowing that one of us is there doing work, it inspires me and feel me with immense pride!!!!

http://glory.giss.nasa.gov/pictures/Spacecraft_RGB.jpg

Well this is the artist impression of the spacecraft that Mr. Bishnujee might be working on. The mission as I have learnt from the site is to build a spacecraft that will do science on aerosol and solar irradiance.

Here’s what the mission page states.....

“Glory is a remote-sensing Earth-orbiting observatory designed to achieve two separate mission objectives. One is to collect data on the chemical, microphysical, and optical properties, and spatial and temporal distributions of aerosols. The other is to continue collection of total solar irradiance data for the long-term climate record. “
