AeSI hidding information !!!

I will tell you something unique about the results this time. But before I will tell you about it I would like to share what happened in the AeSI AGM in cochin!! As most of you, who follow OURAeSI, may know that Air Cmde Raghubir Singh gave a presentation on "Making AMAeSI a Viable option” in the AGM held at Kochi on 18 Feb 07, where he sited the passing percentage of the students in each subject.

The presentation had engaged the attention of all the members including G Madhavan Nair. The paper cited POF and other subjects passing percentages and brought the attention of aesi members on the exam passing figures. Even I am documenting those figures for 3 years and have the lists on the passing percentage but now if you have looked at the results published for June 2007, aesi has conspicuously removed that appeared and passed section from its result.

Only thing they now display is the passing students roll number and their corresponding marks?

So what do you all make of this? Why is aesi hiding those numbers? Is this the effect of embarrassment that they felt when this figures were pointed out in the AGM? Is this information hiding correct? Aren't we entitled to know those numbers?

Please have you say.... I will be emailing aesi to publish those figures. I think being transparent and accountable is the way to go for any body, this way of hiding information doesn't increase my confidence in aesi!

A new look

It’s been long since I have been using the dots template for this blog, in fact this was the first and the last template I chose when I began the blog. So many things have changed since; I was a student then, now I am a aeronautical engineer working in a good company, single then married now. So many changes in my life so why not some changes in the blog.

Well so here I go? And changed it?

Like the previous template I wanted this one to be light and simple. Just like the dots template this harbor template is simple and the focus always remains on the content!!!

Hope you like the change. And for all those who are reading this, this is not the only changes  that you will see in the blog, some more features and text are going to be added in it and I am planning to make it more useful and informative to you all.

So make sure you check it within a week’s time!!

Polls and delays..

Sorry for no post and for the big break I had to take. I was busy with the poll matter and then had to go to my native for a visit. So there is lot of things to share.

Since I have mentioned it, let’s talk about the polls. As I mentioned, I totally forget to write a post regarding that here. So for all those who don’t know what I am talking about, here’s a quick update that now OURAESI club hosts fortnightly polls for its members.

Why the polls? Well polls are good mechanism to know what people are thinking.  And basically every channel and media of communication is doing it so why we AeSI’ans be left behind. So the polls were back.

Back because they were part of OURAeSI before, I remember back in 2002 when I began the club and have persuaded few of my friends to join the club, I used to run polls…….. So those days are back now but now I plan to use the poll to do more than simple fun and give the people of aesi the voice.

Till now we have run two polls……   read about them there in the OURAeSI. And each one has brought heated discussion. I liked the response it generated and it served the purpose and brought out the aesi community, which somehow loves sleeping.

More of the poll are scheduled to come, I am inviting members to submit there polls too, so that we can keep the spirit alive.

Before I began this post I thought I will tell you one curious fact about aesi results this time which are out, but since I know you folks don’t like big post so I will leave the info for the next post. So be sure to check that. It deals with something that had happened in AeSI AGM and its effect on the results!!!

Hope I have piqued your interest…

So folks keep reading, I know, I have promised many times but now I am really planning to upgrade this forum of my communication to you so that it is more help full, informative and entraining to you.

Indian engineering degrees will be internationally recognised Is AMAeSI included

Hi

Before I say anything read the news :

In a significant development, Indian engineering degrees will now be accredited in the United States and will be internationally recognised.

This follows India's induction into the prestigious Washington Accord, an international agreement between registering bodies of member countries accrediting academic engineering programmes, at the university level, leading to the practice of engineering at the full professional level.

India's entry to the Washington Accord would necessarily facilitate mobility of engineering graduates and professionals at international levels and the graduates from NBA-accredited programmes would be automatically accepted for education and employment purposes in member countries.

Well I am glad this has finally happened and it think it will help us too. I am not sure if AMAeSI is included. We need to confirm that form somewhere.

So rejoice dear fellow aesians!!!  And do give your opinion on these too.

I suggest the students to undergo regular college environment. By doing A.M.Ae.S.I, one has to miss many career opportunities.

Not necessarily. By doing AMAeSI one can aim going for a PG in a short period. He will the so called environment there. Even otherwise there are lot many opportunities now in airline sector on maintenance.

S it is true what Uma Maheshwar said . Many of the students r suffering badily as i am one among them . It is better to go to the regular college scoring high percentage completing within a fixed period and can apply for all colleges for higher studies.

AeSI students need to complete with in stipulated time. due to longer time period students are suffering to settle.

I would suggest students to take up this course simply becos of the fact that its the course of the future.Aerospace industry is booming in India and we are short of aeronautical engineers.

a new calendar for OURAESI use it

What good is a calendar? Why we use it ad why we need to do it for OURAeSI.

Lets start wilt wikipedia

"The primary practical use of a calendar is to identify days: to be informed about and/or to agree on a future event and to record an event that has happened. Days may be significant for civil, religious or social reasons.

Calendars are also used to help people manage their personal schedules, time and activities, particularly when individuals have numerous work, school, and family commitments. People frequently use multiple systems, and may keep both a business and family calendar to help prevent them from over committing their time."

Well after reading what wikipedia has to say about use of calendars, I wondered why don't we have a calendar for OURAeSI club. I mean its a community and we have lot that we wanted to know about so hwy not have something like a calendar.

Though it features a calendar but I found Google calendar is much more versatile and open and easy to use, so I planned to have that calendar for OURAeSI

Well while I was reading these things i remembered that I missed this year’s OURAeSI birthday, so a calendar is important and will help it more organized and keep its members more informed.

What am I planning to put in the calendar?

Following is the list of things that I came up

1> birthday and important events of ouraesi,

2> exam schedules of aesi

3> important announcement dates of AeSI

4> any user submitted event related to aesi

5> local aerospace related events in Bangalore

6> Job walk-in info as and when it happens

The club being a community so you all can submit your event request. The calendar will be available freely online.

And I hope it will real help and will be useful in time to come.

Finmeccanica -tips for telephonic interview

I got the following mail...

Dear Sir

My name is Fahimudeen, I have got interview from Finmeccanica, can you provide me details for the first assessment telephonic interview so as to prepare. My interview is schedule to be on June 8th , If u send me details of what they are particular about. It will be great help to me to prepare, waiting for your earnest reply as early as possible.

Fahimudeen .K

and here's my reply

It’s good that you have got a call. Well for preparations please do learn as much as you can from Finmeccanica site about the program that they are offering and what does Finmeccanica does. Know what they do and how you can fit into it.

Most of the questions asked in first assessment will be non-technical, more related to questions which seek demonstrated examples of behavior from your past experience and concentrate on job related functions. They will inquire about your motivation for getting into this program, why you want an international career.?

The questions will seek examples from your working life.

The questions that they ask are as follows

1. What is your motivation of doing this course?
2. Why do you want an international career?
3. Describe a situation where you have worked with people with different culture?
4. Describe a situation when you did something out of your initiative in your present or former job.
5. Tell us an experience in your previous or present job where you did play a critical role and had accepted a challenge and what was the outcome?
6. What do you know about Finmeccanica?
7. How do you work as a team, give one example where teamwork really helped?

Ponder on these points and be prepared with real-file examples out of your life to answers this question. This isn’t technical round.

Apart from checking your motivation for doing the course they will also see and judge your communication skills. So do take extra care on speaking slowly and clearly while on phone. They have a different assent and for them you have a different ascent so be slow and clear.

Also search Google for techniques for telephonic interview and adhere to them.

Here are some suggestions for tackling story-based questions

* Analyze your own background. What skills do you have (content, functional, and adaptive) that relate to your Finmeccanica objective?

* Identify examples from your past experience where you demonstrated those skills. How can you "tell a story" about your use of particular skills or knowledge? Remember that a good story has a beginning, middle and end.

* Wherever possible, quantify your results. Numbers illustrate your level of authority and responsibility.

* Be prepared to provide examples of when results didn¹t turn out as you planned.
What did you do then?

Hope this helps. Best of luck and keep us informed.
