meeting
As promised I would to write something on my meeting with Mr. Bishnujee Singh.
This I am doing for the benefits of the people who were not able to meet him due
exams or other reasons.
Since so many days have passed and I can't boast of a crystal memory, so all I will
pen is what I have retained and remember. Another thing is the lettering may not be
exact what Mr. Bishnujee said but the essence is same.
Clad in a white t-shirt with Boeing 787's front view jutting out from the chest region, he
sat in one corner of his hotel room in front of his open laptop, while we, four of us ,
circled him.
Introductions apart he moved on to the themes and the discussions that were
interesting revealing and inspiring.
Here I try to present his advice on various things.
On finding jobs:
Don't only just go for the newspaper jobs, These mostly come out at last resort or as supplements. So when you are ready, just send in your resumes direct to the hiring managers!!!!! Reference do play a part so select it carefully.
On general mood of the aesi people.
Change your attitude, be proud of what you are doing. Know and believe its one of the
best course that you are doing. Know your worth. And instead of looking on the
negative people of aesi but see bright sides like anshuman etc and so many others who are and have achieved success. Face the sun and all shadows will fall behind!!!!!
On studying:
Read entirely. read with passion and with full dedications. Studying for AMAeSI is a full time job. Devote your full time to it. Save yourself from part time jobs craze unless it helps in your professional development.
On Mtech:
As my views in ouraesi, its more important to get some good experience in some
blue-chip companies than studying oceans and HR in IIT's!!!! The world comes to
India not to get a manager but and engineer. So get those skills.
On studying abroad,
Well I insist on UK because its much more easier to get there and study than US
and one should have a minimum work exposure so that they don't feel alien to the ms courses offered!!!
Well that's it for now. This is the only thing I remember right now, will write back if I
remember something else. And yes, as I said the wording may not be exact same
but the essence is totally same.
But before I close I would like to add a thanks to Mr. Bishnujee for the time and the
effort he took for all of us. Its great to see a person making a difference. And like the
Boeing 787 soaring on his t shirt, I wish him all the best for his career and wish it to
soar new heights!!!!

Missed me...
My message for our aesi on the first day!!!!
Many of things i said on that day are still relevent and now after 646 members in the club, i feel proud in seeing the club florish and soar hight.
It feels good to know that a thing is there now where aesi graduates can come and gather, a place where one can file questions that might get an answe\. None existed when i needed one such answer and that created this club!!!
Its has a long journery from the time when i have to coax my friends to join, from the time when i alone posted and when, none new about ouraesi club!! It has grown and it will continue to grow from support of so many of its members!1 thank you all and please do contribute, its your chance to make difference.....
Here i am posting the mail that i posted on the time i menstioned above.
Welcome Member
Every college, engineering or otherwise, has a community! But for
Aeronautical society's student there's none. No place to gather , no
place to meet and no place to share. so i came up with the idea of
this group where through net we can interact and communicate with all
our fellow mates who are spread all over india !!
This is a mammoth task and a single individual can't complete it
alone. So i hope all the members joining here will take this task in
there hand & will spread the word for this group to there immediate
friends and will unite all the students of AeSI.
I am a member to one group but that group is very passive only 2 or 3
people contibute to the group rest just keep mum and i don't want
this to happen to our group. Hey AeSI students are not lazy!! So
please make it a point to contibute something, maybe how trival, once
in a week to the club. It can be anything ; a small artile you read,
or a very good site you visited , a great exam tip you heard or even
your problems in flights question paper you can't solve....
The idea here is just to contibute and show that we are an active
community.
The success and failure of any community depends on its people's. And
here the onus is on you. Borrowing John D Anderson words, my work is
done, yours is just begining................

A little apology
First of all a little apology, i owe to you all for sending one message repeatedly for three times, actually it was a problem with my mobile which i used sending the message, it showed server not responding and i clicked thrice. Sorry!!!
Anyway, exams are over, at least for propulsion and aerodynamics students!!! This time the general mood of the exam was happy except of course the Flights exams which got questions from ASM and Prop three.
As someone i talked pointed out, "this time questions in aesi exams were knowledge based!" and seeing VMD, ASM, P3 and MATHS 3 paper, i think he is not exactly wrong.
More on exams latter !!! And yes, if you sometime see one message posted more than once, please ignore cause you know my mobile misfired!!!!

AGM mein
Imagine a big hall full of people, some sitting on the beautifully constructed podium and other in posh chairs. Imagine yourself sitting with friends listening to the not-so-interesting lectures and clapping at recipients of awards and then you hear your name being called. After a while when u finally realize its you only they are announcing and you move forward to the podium to get your degree , the DJ sound increasingly resonating with the claps that propel you towards the podium. you somewhat dazzled, but brimming with pride accept the prize. And imagine getting the degree from the face of Indian aeronautics, and being congratulated by him and clapped by a hall full of people some very eminent personalities of our time. And imagine yourself wishing so hard at that very moment that your parents were there and see their son's moment of achievement... Well if you haven't gone to the AGM this time you have the missed this exact feeling...... and you can just now imagine, as told to me by my roommate who was there at the scene of action.
I can't possible recount the things that happened there but then from what I heard and from what I have felt while talking to friends who went there, each of them have enjoyed and had a great time. Of course as with any big functions there are bound to be some small glitches like a friend of mine lost the very thing he went there to collect, his degree certificate and one lost 1000 bucks, but hey as shah rukh khan said "bade bade sharaoo mein asccci chhoti choti baate hoti rehti hai! " and having said i hope and wish that they will recover the things!!
Anyway some of the good things that people liked was that the degrees were awarded not behind close doors as I and I guess you also have heard from so many of our seniors, this time it was in open and in full ovations..... I admit there were no black gown and black caps to swing up for that Kodak moment but hey the jester of getting the degrees in a ovation was worth any gown, and I am sure anyone who has gone there and received the degree will surely agree.
Another thing was that this time degrees were awarded and they were given in a file folder to hold it. This was the first time this has happened, in my knowledge.
Many members of this very club have visited the place, I hope people will share their experiences with us and let us know firsthand what they loved and hated about it. (of course that includes the vodkas, teas, juices and snacks!! And I heard from someone the tea was third class) And for all those graduating next, my friend and roommate has one resounding thing to say 'go ahead, don't miss it for your life and be sure I'll there next time among the one clapping for you!''

What-s working for kis
Grand hyatt challo
I admit there won't be gowns and no throwing of hats for that
picture, but hey its your graduating ceremony nevertheless.......
don't miss the even in Grand Hyatt in Mumbai this AGM on 2nd
December!!
I don't know about others, but every graduating member should go
to this important part of his or life. This event will come only once
in your life, don't miss it for some lousy cloths, my friends not
going so i won't go type or other flimsy reasons. This is the
culmination of all the hours that you have put in and all the
sacrifices you and your family did. Then why miss the climax when
the you have earned it.
I admit gown will be missing and it won't be extravagant as we see
in TV, but one thing i am sure it will be one you will remember
all your life, one that you will tell your ( maybe i am going far)
but to your grand children's!!
Well all i say if the reason is not very genuine, Grand Hyatt challo!!!!

About forum
Someone in ouraesi talked about forum, and my first reaction was i don't think it will run. I speak from previous experience of being the web master of aerodreams.org. Forums administraTion is full time job and moreover people prefer opening mails than going and logging to a site. This saiD i'll welcome t move.
First november is the deadline

CLOCTER LAB part ii
...in its 600 mm dia test bed, at some point of time in its development. An impeller in the bed, revolving at 18000rpm, is hammered by a gust of freon or air at a rate of 2.5kg per second, to check, verify or validate its performance. This Thyristor Controlled, variable speed rig is the place i call my office!!
CLOCTER LAB
At first glance, clocter lab looks an assemblage of pipes of varied dimenstions with huge motor at one end. The onlooker without knowledge will fail to admire that he is standing near a 375Kw powerhouse that has nursed the centrifugal compressors of this country. From industrial compressor to aircraft comp, each one had been fitted in its 600 mm...
what i did today
Nothing much, one c program, reports modification and an little staring at the htbasic program that sir gave me. He is an expert in it and i would like to replicate this quality of his in c.

NAL equal SOFTWARE part iii
...I'm not saying in NAL no software, but all i want to tell is NAL is not equal software, its equal to practical work, its equal to live projects, its equal to being under top minds of Indian Aerospace experts.
NAL equal SOFTWARE part ii
...making U feel that software is more important than t practical experience one is gaining doing a practical work. One can get software training in any institute but live work, one'll Only get here.

Three things to learn from my boss
I call him boss, actually the proper term is guide. Anyways ist he is a ardent reader. I have never seen him without reading something. Secondly he never remains ideal, always tinkering with something. Thirdly he is enthusiatic about his work.
No goal no NAL
Thinking about training, then think about your goals. If u come here like mr r then u'll be in shock!! U must have a personal well defined goal before u venture coz its not always that u'll get the work u want in training. Keep a goal and stick to it as u go everyday to ur training. This will help kill t idleness that might come due to no work.

New record on ouraesi
I don't know if u have noticed but in this september ouraesi receive highest no. of messages. It broke previous record of 105 messages set in march 2003 by one message. As this update Is from my mobile, hence brief.
Aesi agm
This time aesi agm is on 2nd december in pune. How i wished i could have gone there but..... well in the next one i'll go and god willing will have a great satisfying job.
Place of familiarity
In NAL u can only get familiar with the tool but true learning comes in two ways, one ur work is related to that tool and other is by joining a course.
Most important lesson....
Most important thing i have learnt in NAL till now is that softwares are just tools, and the work is the core. So learn the core tools will automatically follow. Tool without work is waSte.
Clocter history
Well right now, i practically have no knowledge of clocter and its history. Will keep my eyes and ears open and will write about it here.
Interesting news
Kis's guide has given a lecture opportunity to him on tuesday. This will be his chance to be more visible in NAL and if he does well, he can influence indians MAV program.
Three things i would like to do now
No one thing is i would like to do C programs involving numerical analysis. Second thing is learn and apply batch mode of ansys and thirdly i would like to fuse c with solidworks drawing

SolidWorks 2006
SolidWorks Corporation has unveiled for the Indian market, SolidWorks 2006 - the latest version of the 3D mechanical design software it has been shipping for nearly a decade. The product was unveiled at the first SolidWorks World India 2005 user meet in Bangalore.
SolidWorks 2006 features a host of new and unique capabilities to help designers and engineers bring better products more quickly to market, and to more easily transition from 2D to 3D design, the firm claimed. The software includes more than 200 customer-requested enhancements and significant innovations that break new ground in engineering efficiency.
The main features of the package include enhanced performance, new user productivity tools such as Smart Components, new features for consumer product, sheet metal, and machine designers, 3D drawing view and design checker, as well as enhancements to the DWG Series and SolidWorks Office Premium.
With SolidWorks 2006, users can now continue to work in drawings without waiting for drawing views or system graphics to be recalculated, the company said. The release will support the Windows XP Professional x64 edition with a soon-to-be-released service pack. A native 64-bit version of SolidWorks 2006 is expected to ship later this year, promising further performance gains, the firm said.

Dean IIT Madras.......
Dear Friends,
Here is a personal experience, as well as a moment of national pride, which I want to share with you. Hope you find it worth the time you put in reading it :
"In the middle of 1965 India-Pakistan war, US govt - then a close friend of Pakistan - threatened India with stopping food-aid (remember "PL-480"?). For a food deficient India this threat was serious and humiliating. So much so that in the middle of war, Prime Minister (Late) Lal Bahadur Shastri went to Ram Leela Grounds in Delhi and appealed to each Indian to observe one-meal-fast every week to answer the American threat. As a school boy, I joined those millions who responded to Shastri ji's call. I continued the fast even when the war was over and India became self sufficient in food. Hurt deep by the national humiliation suffered at the hands of the US govt, I had vowed to stop my weekly fast only when India starts giving aid to USA.
It took just 40 years. Last week THE day arrived. When Indian ambassador in Washington DC handed over a cheque of US$ 50 million to the US govt, two plane loads of food, medical aid and other relief materials were waiting to fly to the USA. Time to break the fast? With no bad feeling about the USA, and good wishes for the Katrina victims, this humble Indian feels proud of the distance India has covered in 40 years. Let's celebrate a New India!"
- Vijay Kranti.
Dean - IIT Madras
September update
So September also flew by, here's my update for number of hours spent in NAL on different softwares.
This month, i have logged 103 hours of software time, and this is 23% jump from the previous month.
In my tenths week at NAL, i think i am progressing well. Anyway the major thrust, as anybody seeing me would have concluded came from solid works.
I have extensively did that stuff this time and now even my boss acknowledges that I'm growing with it.
Another highlight of this month was, i have begin my ansys chapter. Will the last week, i have done pretty much everyday logging first ever 10 hours in Ansys.
Another interesting fact was that i haven't touched matlab and fortran this month.
The reason perhaps, i was busy with all this task of compressor building, so had to cope with it.
This month, i feel Tc lagged behind and I've to do it always, so this coming month, I'll make one complete Tc project on thermal cycle analysis of turbojet, turboprop engine.
This program will be a professional one and i would like to make it user friendly, customise able, accurate and use full. I will make this program in spare time and gift the whole program to my guide scientist.

My ten hours with ANSYS?
Well, for MATLAB, i can say its help is great, i mean great. And i have only used it for 5 hours till now in my life and i can say confidently that given a chance, i will learn the software easily and can make it work the way i want.
But, unfortunately, ANSYS, doesn't come a wee bit closer to it, in terms of friendliness to use.
In my ten hours of its use, i have just now begin to get comfortable with it. The menu's are different, the help is cluttered, commands not presented all at one place and difficult to begin with, are few of its shortfalls.
Unlike matlab's help, which expects you to be novice to it and takes you to the guided tour, ansys, lacks the lucidness, clarity and the initial interest factor for a beginner. Its much easier to begin and learn as you go in MATLAB than this software.
Few enhancement it could include are the first few chapters should be uncluttered, not much links should be provided and in the middle of the chapters do not provide information, not required now, put them at he end.
Well, a striking difference that anyone tinkering with this software will feel is that its passive for most of the time.
This was a striking thing that hit me while using ansys, which in case of matlab is exactly opposite. Matlab it active and very interactive.
Well, not everything was negative in my experience with ansys. Something were very intuitive like using this software it feels like you are setting up a display with all careful, definition and modelling and meshing and the final show is when you see the result. It feels like you are preparing for a magic show, with all those pre-possessing , defining and patient modeling.
The fact that i used, possions ratio, Young's modulus, coefficient of expansion and so forth and actually applied them in a software for analysis was another good thing i enjoyed. I always thought this was the stuff for books to scare us !!!! ( just kidding)
But the ultimate pleasure with this software is when you see your work, hours of modeling and meshing, give you the solution and mostly the animation that you can see.
Imagine making a truss and finding loads in each members automatically and moreover seeing actually how the structure deforms is a pleasure that you need to see to enjoy.

My ten hours in ansys were slow, but after getting results, i know every seconds i spend on it was worthwhile.a great concern really
I totally agree with vladimir. Its a grave concern and it must be stopped. I have faced the same and i would like to tell everyone in who is from aesi and is doing training "don't dig hole for your fellow aesian's, set a good example".
The day i went in NAL for the first time, i felt and i felt it again today through a friend of mine. Please don't dig graves while you are doing training.
What do i mean? I mean don't commit to any training if u are not serious of continuing it, don;t come to training for "...aisse hi kar raha huin, kuch aur karneko nahi hai". This is injurious to everyone including you.
While on training two things have startlingly become clear to me, one aesi graduates are truly knowledgeable and i have heard senior scients acknowledge the fact and the other not so good fact is that aesi folks are not responsible. The first thing my guide scientist said to me as i asked for training under him was, " aesi guys are good but you folks are not trust worthy, i know u will leave any day!, sorry i can't take you.", And i would have easily vanished his remark if i didn't have the knowledge that he is talking from his personal experience.
I was lucky that i could convince my scientist and got this but not everyone gets that and today as i saw the face of one of my acquaintance, who didn't get training just because some few lucky idiots got the chance easily and dumped it when they wanted, without even bothering what repercussions it will have on future persons who seek the training seriously and who need it.
And on the final note, the CTFD head of NAL, i heard said pointing to three students of aesi doing training there,"This is the last batch of aesi in CTFD , i won't take any more"
Life's Little instuction manual
I come here to post some thing that i wanted to do but this post intriged me so much that i am sending it as a gem of ouraesi post to this blog.
Thanks vladimir mclousky. This one is one of your best. keep up the good work.

Character certificate
Nothing great happened in Nal today, but had the opportunity to see, touch and dismantle the MGT gas turbine engine's combustion chamber.
It was nothing spectacular as such, a cylindrical mild steel piece about a foot long, 15 cm wide, with copper fuel tubes tangling at one end. But nevertheless touching and dismantling it did was a new and nice xp for me.
As we were doing this, harish, my bench mate at clocter control room, remarked when i blurted out "what I'm doing here with this screws drivers and wrench". He replied, candidly, "The work at clocter before the computer is for the technical certificate and this one is for the character certificate!" Liked he point of view and how true.
Well, I'll continue this things keeping a balance on this things.
A fatal mistake
Well today did a big blunder at nal before my boss. I was drawing the curve of impeller blade but somehow my coordinates didn't matched.
It was a matter of same. I felt bad that i did such a mistake and haven't even realised that i did it.
There is one another thing, in all these days i didn't even see the things i was supposed to see.
This was not the only thing, i also saw that i was not at all resourceful and went to my boss without results. Now i have o make it an habit that i have to complete the task as soon as it it given.
This impeller design took a lot of my time which it shouldn't have. Lesson learnt from this episode was put work before your pleasures and personal work.
Approach sir as quick as you can. Interact and update him daily, tell him where u are and what u are doing.
And the biggest lesson is to minimize mistakes. At all cost minimize this silly problems. As i did today with the design, do a systematic check, eliminate all doubts. This is the way forward.
A good point that i learnt today while working on solid works about how to solve a problem is to eliminate all the lines little by little, with patience and systematically and finally you will know where is the wrong.
What's up
I haven't began that project report not even today. That's bad. But i was busy.
And before i dig into that let me tell you about 3 things i have to do from now on in clocter.
I need to do programs with basics. Reading them only won't help, i need to get dirty and try my hands in it. I will use the graphics features of it and make myself comfortable in it.
I will also take bold steps in sir's program and try to emulate them.
Graphics, programming is good but programming the programs of my field is the challenge and this is what I'll learn here.
Another thing is about solid works. I tend to forget things so I'll make it a point to visit its tutorial by doing an example a day everyday.
I need to proficient in it and nothing but practice will make it work. I don't want to be like prasanth, as he forgets things in solidworks when this is his base and he is doing this all the time.
Anyway, in matlab i will learn the programing part and simulink. Read and practice here is here again.
After a long time

Today was an ordinary day for me. did nothing extra ordinary, though the presence of a certain ms king from Imperial college london was the highlight of the day.
All the day, today went in decorating the clocter, the place of my work. Every department of propulsion division opened its stall there, show casing its acheivement. What benifit it would bring to NAL, i don't have a way to know, but i guess this exercise gave the divisions to poIish there creations and maybe a reminder of how little, how small there contribution is.

Analysis of result june 2005
Someone very eloquently put it " Its cold, its calculating. There is
no grey. Its all black or white". She was talking about maths and
statistics. Well that 's the very thing that's attractive about them.
They give answers. Here are the answers, that i got from the analysis
of the results this time, which as you maybe aware i am in the habit
of doing it for the past semesters.
This analysis is my 6th one, and having the data's for the past years
have given a unique perspective to this analysis, as i have compared
them all together as you will see from the graphs.
For the benefit of all those like me who are more akin to figures and
graphs, i have added like last year the magic of excel graphs. Eye
pleasing and informative at the same time. So without much adieu
lets begin.
Section A
a. In section A, as always principal of flights has the lowest passing
percentage. With 7.36% passing that is 7.36 people passing out of 100
hundred who appeared for the exam.
b. Best performance for the last four semesters is of ED, Which has
46.37% pass out this time.
c. Fluids is the subject with most number of student appearing this
time in any subject of section a.
d. The subjects of Thermo, Maths-II, Solids and fluids had more than
1100 student appearing in each! This probably stems from the backlog
that gets created as the students fail in this subjects in previous
semester.
e. 18.125 out of 100 people who had appeared in any subject of section
A has cleared the subjects. This number is fairly constant for the
last semesters as seen from the trend line of
sec a.
f. Of all the semesters, June 2003 has the lowest pass out percentage
in Section A, highest being December 2002 semester.
g. If you look closely at the data, you will see that this is the
first time that any
subjects pass out in Section A has crossed more than 45% and subject
who broke the record is ED.
Section B
a. In propulsion stream, biggest shocker is VMD result which
previously always hovered along 80% pass out line, but this time it
had Nil passing percentage, with no one passing out of 35 who
appeared.
b. Propulsion two is the top scorer of this semester in propulsion
stream with 84.62% passing percentage. This subjects passing
percentage fairly remained close to this 80% line only dip was in June
2004, when it went below 40%!!
c. Math-III is the second best in prop stream, with close to 60+%
passing percentage and many above 70+ marks!!
d. In propulsion I, the passing percentage has declined from 55+% in
December 2002 to 48% this semester.
e. In all propulsion core subjects, propulsion III is always the one
with lowest pass outs and this perhaps explains the maximum number of
students that appeared for it this time in propulsion stream.
f. Structure one is the highest scorer in aerodynamics stream of
section B, with an all time high of 86.21% pass outs and the marks i
heard were generous, as one of my acquaintance got 93, highest ever
mark i have heard of
g. Vibration also made a good showing with 71.87% passing percentage.
This is highest for vibration in last 6 semesters.
h. Aerodynamics one was a shocker this time, as only 3 out of 52 who
appeared passed. Looking at the data, you Will learn that aeroone has
the distinction of being the subject with highest ever pass outs of
AeSI, which was in dec 2003, got 90.47% passed in this subject.
i. With an average of 56.87%, aerodynamics stream for the first time
has overtaken the passing percentage of propulsion stream, which for
this semester stands at its lowest 43.36%!!
j. Compared to all the passing percentages for last 6 semesters,
propulsion streams results this time were lowest.
Well, if this facts enlightens you, i am sure the graphs that follows
will add more to your understandings, so take a look.

Someone asked me "why do you do it?" well i do it because it give
answers, nay stupid answer. I do it because i love doing it. Please
don't forget to send your "hate mails" i love receiving them, they

IF they can do it, why can't NAL?
Yesterday was good day in a sense as i saw the flights of 6 r/c
aircraft's. Well in a way it was like my first test flight. only
difference being instead of testing own-build aircraft we were
assembled there for a session of seeing these commercial radio
controlled planes fly. The event went well, with only 6-7 people
involved and a total of 12 person present there at the time of flights
, everything went smoothly.
First test flight of a flying saucer type aircraft failed. It couldn't
generate enough lift to be up.After two and three miss starts, one
particular light weight plane did the flight we all were waiting for,
it soared high and was up in the sky for 4 minutes, with making
several rounds above us and finally making a smooth real aircraft type
landing. It got the applause we all were ready to release.
The most expected disappointment was the helicopter, it had some cool
advancements, as i learnt latter, but it was flimsy and fragile and
it paid the price at the very beginning of the show.
The supersonic stealth fighter type aircraft also impressed, as i saw
Sankar Narayan sir, taking much interest in it, probably because he
has selected that very triangular wing configuration and also the fact
that this aircraft was much smaller. But this one had an inherent
disadvantage of no rudder and aileron, so all the work needs to be
done with differential control of the aircraft's propellers!!!
An interesting incident happened when Radha Krish sir piloted the
stealth aircraft and it went straight to the bushes.
One particular thing that i learnt today was about SN sir,( he is
kis's boss,) was that he has foresight and he thought of everything
and he was prepared to have a tea biscuit party after the show and it
was i think his best demonstration.
He is a hard task master and has the unique ability to inspire
people. Full of tales and anecdotes, he never fails to tell you a
tale or something. So here in the NAL cricket ground, during the
flight test, he assembled the talents of Indian Aeronautical and
challenged them to think up of ways to ignite the passion.
At that time, while on the show this all looked like nothing, what
good it is when you see that NAL, India's premiere lab which has
graduates like SARAS, HANSA and LCA, will let there scientists fly
commercial radio controlled air crafts. It looked like shame. But
now i realize the real purpose behind the show and it shows how
clever SN sir is. With this field trip he reignited the flame of
creativity , challenge in everyone present there. He instilled "If
they can do it, why can't NAL"

Yesterday was a good day, as i initiated my way to drawing. On my
boss's requirement i have to learn solid works. He said in future, i
will need more people to take care of the drawings and so i need and
extra hand and i have to be prepared for it. I guess is genuine and
not a way to let me stick with some thing non essential. Anyway my
benefit will be I'll learn solid works and what the heck. If i had to
do it all by myself then, i don't think i would have touched this
software, anyway great, doing something is better than not doing
anything! And it will add weight to my resume too.
well yesterday was a good day for one more reason. The reason was i
have developed a way to measure my effectiveness in nal. The main
premise is based on the fact that all the time i am in NAl, most of
the time, i am in front of a computer, so i will measure my
effectiveness, on the amount of time that i spend on different
software. This has two advantages, one that i will have a log of what
software and how many hours i have used that particular software and
the other advantage being to have the opportunity to learn the
software. I have selected 8 soft wares that i plan to learn while i
am in NAL, some of which i have started and some i will begin as the
work progress here. So this way my work will be cut out here, if I'm
not working on a project for sir, then I'm completing my computing
hours on a particular software.
I firmly believe that to be a knowledgeable software user, you have to
spend time with her, this is just like us, more we spend our time with
each other, more we discover each other. Same goes for
software's........
By playing with software, i don't mean checking out menus and reading
help, to truly know you need to take live projects and solve them, by
solving problems will you learn.
1:33 PM 8/26/2005
well yesterday was a good day, as my boss praised me. He said he was
happy with my work and i am the right kind of a person he was looking
for. I am glad to hear this. And would like that this should always
be there and i do as expected and better .
Well one thing i learnt yesterday from him, was the value of
accountability and not to bend rules, rules are rules. And today
was good in the sense i saw the flights of 6 r/c aircraft's. Well in
a way it was like my first test flight. only difference being instead

From cyber cafe
4:41 PM 8/9/2005
Things i learnt today
Saw the basics of MATLab and with Fortran i learnt about taking
in data from texts files and then making them reading them from
the file and making the program runI am working on a simple turbojet
program which i have to read and decipher and then modify for
sir's use.
We are really interested in a small range and i will make the programs here.
will catch up latter bye
9:19 AM 8/11/2005
well yesterday was my day with my guide scientist. I
encountered a problem in fortran and i was not able to pin point
the problem in the code, so had to call sir and after a long
debugging process, we finally understood the result.
I liked the session as i saw how sir's mind was working. As i saw
myself jumping to conclusions, he remained on the program and began
analizing the program from the beginning
and bit by bit, patiently he solved the program. So learnt the
lesson of going to the root of the problem.
For today, i plan to read matlab simulink and check if c program
works in this fortran program. Sir will be absent today so i want
to learn and try as much MATLAB as i can. I also intend to modify
this fortran program to give me the output as i want it!!!
3:36 PM 8/11/2005
What i did today?
This is the first day when my guide scientist is not in clocter
for the whole day and i have this control room (as it is called) all
to myself.
They say you reveal yourself when you are alone, or when you
know you are not being watched? So i learnt one thing about
myself, that i am a computer fan and addict as i read about fuzzy
logic, how to use it, didi a small basic simulik model and read
and showed kishore MATLAb's capabilites.
I have a deep interest in FL and AI and i want to pursue it further
and would like to engage in a field that entwines aerospace and
software and FL AN and AI.
FL and AI will be of great use for autonomous vehicles, probes and scientific
experiments and i want to be a part of this when it happens here in India!!
4:42 PM 8/12/2005
Well today i have learnt two things one use the units and when
you have done a thing do it properly and if there is a fault in
your calculations ,find it before proceeding.
I went to my G Sc without that and had to get a secret some advice
and he asked me to be careful. Well that's what i learnt today.
Another thing that i felt was how clearly sir, stirred me from one
stage to another. And now the whole picture that he has painted for
me is coming in focus. Though lot of fuzz is still there but i am in
the project of MGT.
will go now will write latter
3:39 PM 8/16/2005
How do i describe today. I did a lot of calculation but my boss is
busy today and so he has not even looked at my data and has
dismissed me. Well lets see, maybe this will make me learn more. I
will learn more about the topic i am in.
sometimes this feels like not contributing anything to him. I want
to be a real help to him and want real work and this i know is his
test work by which he is testing me.
Well someone said that you must always go the extra mile. Am i
going with my boss. No i guess not, but i am trying and i will surely
get the reward.
I will learn more and more about the topics i have to read and i will
make sure that i know what i am needed to to do the next day.
One strategy to cope with sir is to know fully and to know what is
going to come next and this comes by observation and questioning. Be
vigilant
3:25 PM 8/18/2005
WELL TODAY WAS NOT BAD. i DID SOME CALCULATIONS AND NOTHING MUCH.
My BOSS DIDN'T COME
MUCH, THOUGH I WOULD LIKE HIM TO COME MORE OFTEN.
yesterday was also same, only thing was that he had a presentation and
so he took some randomly calculated values to the committee. Maybe
those were a small part in his over all presentation.
Kishore attended the brain storming session and he was excited about
it. My boss didn't take me. But his boss took him as the projector.
Well next time i will ask my boss to take me too. Lets see what they
are talking there. Anyway learning something here has too options. on
you have to come prepared that you will do this and that thing, then
only can you prepare and get the maximum out of the stay here. I
plan to learn matlab and fortran and autocad by this month.
I will learn the BASICs of this softwares and drive this knowledge to
the level seekd by the companies.
How can one improve the environment of clocter. well this is not
the .... sir is coming
2:31 PM 8/22/2005
Well today is bore, i have no work and my boss is busy so here i am
whiling my time.
Although i took this opportunity to make a make that graphs of
passing percentage and the task i take up twice in months years
time.
I have finished some of it and conclusions are remaining and those
will be there in the at home. I will take this file and will upload
it back to my site and in gmail. Another thing is that i need to
look a more methodical approach.
By methodical i mean, to make a template and in which i just need to
add the values to get that percentages and reports.
Well what was the most surprising fact that i have learnt from this
analysis, it was that section a in DEC 2004 had the lowest passing
percentage. In propulsion stream, sir came so had to stop.

June 2005 result a preview
Hello there,
if you all follow the ouraesi club, you will know that after each
exam i do a small statistical anlysis of the results, giving a proper
idea on how many student passed ina particular subject, stream and
area.
So this semster is no different. I am in the process of doing that
right now, but here in this blog, i am sharing a preveiw of what is
to come.
18.125 % out of 100 students who appeared in any subject of section
A passed. This is really constant for the last 6 semesters of which i
have records.
Why is this so, i don't have a definte answer. But then theree is an
interesting number that number of student appearing in thermo,
fluids, maths 2 and solids is all avove 1100 students!!!
43.36 % is the average pssing percentage of section B propulsion
stream, where aerodynamics this time notched 58.87% .
This is not common as from the last 6 semesters its the propulsion
stream that was excelling but this time generous marks in structures
pushed aerodynamic streams passing percentage ahead of propulsion!!!
In propulsion stream the biggest shocker is the VMD result. In the
last 4 semesters whose result i have, the passing percentage hovered
around 80+% passing out of hundred who appear for the exam but this
time no one passed out of the 35 who appeared!!! That was a not a
surprise to me, as i had the personal experience of appearing in
this exam and the drastic , sudden change in question paper was the
main reason to blame!!!
anyways, this is just the preview, more will come when i bring out
the summary in detain due in this week, with graphs!!! so w ait on.
please do reply if you have any suggestion or queries. Love to hear
from you.
